Hook edge home in ‘A cracking match’
Leading the way for Cresselly was opening bat Neal Williams, who regularly plays for Wales Seniors in their Over 60s squad and showed just why as he helped Cresselly recover from real trouble at 10 for 3 with his superb innings of 127 not out supported by an equally good innings of 76 by talented teenager Griff Jenkins, in a partnership of 150+.
For Hook, Callum Jenkins led their bowling attack with 4 for 43, assisted by Brennan Martin (2 for 45) and Rhys Phelps (2 for 54) before their batsmen set about achieving such a big target with steady innings by Liam Miller (36) and Aled Phelps (36) amongst other cameos against the bowling of Griff Jenkins (3 for 43), Iori Thomas (2 for 64), Ollie Arthur and brothers Matthew and Ryan Lewis.
It looked as if Hook had left themselves too big a challenge on the run-in but then in came Callum James to smash 32 not out from only 13 deliveries, finishing in style with a big boundary to complete a good overall day for the Hook all-rounder and his delighted team!
Summons was part of the Johnston attack that restricted the home side to a reasonable score of 153 for 9 thanks to Simon Batchelor (52), Ninja Prabhath (23) and Daf Williams (21), claiming 2 for 38 alongside Liam James (2 for 27) and Nick Davies (2 for 25).
But after tea he took command with the bat as he opened with Chris Fitzpatrick (26) before Daf Williams shifted ‘Fitz’ but then the hard-hitting Summons found a second willing partner in Lewis Boswell (33 not out) as he breezed his way to an undefeated 70 – and ensured a first win of the season for The Glebelands Gang whilst helping to leave Llanrhian anchored firmly at the bottom of the table with three defeats out of three games played so far.
Carew Seconds had Ian Sefton (59) as their top scorer with other useful contributions from Luke Hicks, Jonty Bennett, Dai Rees and Jacob Knox, who was not out as they finished their 40 o on 168 for 6, whilst Steve Williams (3 for 25) led the Tish Bowling, helped by two wickets each from Brennan Devonald and John Pawlett and one from his cousin Andrew.
Jon Pawlett belted a quick-fire 57 and found support from Devonald (27) and Andrew Williams but Sam Harts bowled his heart out for a 4 for 32 analysis and Carew had two-wicket hauls from Jeremy Griffiths and Knox, with Jonty Bennett picking up a wicket against his former team mates, as did club president Steve Cole.
Indeed, Pembroke started badly as their big guns failed to even each double figures as ‘Mr Reliable’ Luke Butler and Krunal Patel made useful contributions against Tom (3 for 20) and Florian (2 for 20) Cartwright were wicket-takers with Jamie Smith and Jaap Harries sharing the other four.
Then Llechryd’s runs came from Emilia Wilson (31), John Curran (16) and Smith (21) but Krunal Patel grabbed 4 for 22 from his left-armers and was supported by Ceri Brace (2 for 25), Sam davies, Bill Wood and Bowyn Clark.
In the final match, NARBERTH beat BURTON SECONDS thanks to a splendid 93 not out by Loui Davies and Matthew Johns picked up 5 for 25 – but no further details were available at the time of going to press.
