Junior Leagues Representative Match
Pembroke CCC (196 all out) lost to SW Junior League (197 for 2) by 8 wickets
Venue: Ffosyrefail Ground, Pontarddulais
Umpires: Keith Davies and Rob Miles
Scorer: Ben Davies
Pembrokeshire Cricket’s talented teenagers made the journey to Pontarddulais to take on their counterparts from the South Wales Junior League but although they batted quite well to build a tally close to 200, they soon found it wasn’t anywhere near enough as the home openers Cai Fitzgerald and Rhys Lonsdale sped to half centuries before retiring en route to victory by eight wickets.
Half centuries for both opposition openers
Lonsdale adopted the anchor role as his unbeaten 50 was made from 74 balls and included five fours but partner Fitzgerald went on to the attack from the outset so that he reached his half century from only 34 balls and contained 13 fours and a handful of singles!
James Moul (33, including five fours and a six) and Eoghan Mckeegan 32 (four fours) provided the necessary support and only Tyler James and Taylor Lewis managed a wicket as Pembs made sure that all outfield players had the chance to test their bowling skills against such strong opposing,
Lewis leads County to final tally
Pembrokeshire had been asked to bat first and had decent performances from Ollie Cook, Milo Jones, Taylor Lewis and George Morgan amongst others who got off to solid starts but then were unable to build innings of note.
The only exception was Lewis Mason, who kept focussed and was rewarded with an outstanding 61 that was made in only 51 deliveries and contained 13 boundaries as proof of his ability to punish the loose balls.
Coach Steve speaks wise words
Home bowlers Noa Jones, Logan Owen and Oliver Collins-Hughes all claimed two wickets from their eight bowlers used - and Pembrokeshire coach Steve Lewis was quick to praise the opposition but told PembrokeshireSport.co.uk
“We had our chances but must learn to be more patient in our batting as we build innings and also to polish our fielding so we keep pressure on teams in the field, which will only come with patience and experience.
