Pembroke maintain their recent good form

Match One - Pembroke (123 for 2) beat Burton (98 all out) by 25 runs

Sam Davies - runs and a wicket in for Pembroke in the opening gamePembroke continue to show how much they have learned about indoor cricket this campaign as they fended off a strong challenge from a Burton side who are also growing in stature, eventually winning by 25 runs as they batted, fielded and bowled just that little bit better than their opponents.

Skipper Jack Harries once again led the Pembroke batting with 27 before he had to retire but in-form run-getter Jon Rogers was removed by Toby Hayman for only 7 runs to reduce his huge average for the games so far.

Luke Butler is another batsman enjoying himself in batting and keeping wicket and he scored 21 before he was run out by some sharp Burton fielding, but Pembroke now bat in depth and Sam Davies also retired with 25 runs to his name before Charlie Perkins (24) and Andrew Price (13) were undefeated at the end of their ten overs.

Their final score of 123 for 2 included six fours, a six and 26 threes, with the significantly low number of 13 ‘dot balls’ from which they failed to score.

Toby Hayman and Jack Davies set up the Burton challenge to reach such a good tally with respective scores of 24 and 19 before they were caught by Andrew Price off Charlie Perkins and Sam Davies, and Richard Davies was run out for 7 and Dan Ridge followed by the same ode of dismissal when he looked good on 14.

Morgan Scale (9) Became talented youngster Charlie Perkins second victim and when Harry Owen became the third run out victim on 17 it meant that Burton were all out with one over still in hand.
Their innings included 2 fours a six and 23 threes but had 17 balls from which they were unable to score any runs as Perkins returned fine figures of 2 for 26 and Jon Rogers was the most miserly bowler as his two overs cost only 15 runs.

Skipper Harries lead Pembroke to another good win

Match Two - Hook (86 for 5) lost to Pembroke (89 for 4) by 2 wickets

Jack Harries - Pembroke skipper shone in beating HookPembroke skipper Jack Harries top scored for his side for the second time in the evening by scoring a peerless 53 not out as they passed Hook’s total of 86 for 5 with an over to spare - and he had early bowled his two overs for nine runs, with three scoring shots from 12 deliveries.

Also bowling well after Hook had been asked to bat first was Jonathan Rogers, who also returned identical figures of 0 for 9 as the opposition looked a little short of their best form, other than No 3 Lewis Phelps, who stroked his way to 45 before being run out late on, after his brother Liam had also been run out for 7 and Aled Phelps (6) had been caught by Rogers off Perkins.

Owen Phelps (6) was bowled by Andrew Price and Harry Makepeace was run out without scoring and it was left to Bradley Flood to give a measure of support with 18 not out in a late stand with Lewis Miller.

Butler kept well for Pembroke and their bowling was tight as they stopped Hook scoring on 29 occasions, which is almost half of the allocated overs!

Harry Makepeace bowled really well for Hook, including the wicket of Rogers, caught by Owen Phelps for 11 as he conceded only eight runs from his two overs - and Aled Phelps further raised Hook hopes by bowling Butler (3).

The pressure on Pembroke continued as Hook kept things tight and both Sam Davies (1) and Price (3) were run out.

But Charlie Perkins completed a good evening’s work for him with 11 not out and Harries retired twice but was able to return and rap two sixes and five fours and his cracking innings that saw Pembroke claim their second success of the evening.

Burton edge home in high-scoring thriller

Match Three - Burton (133 for 2) beat Hook (129 for 2) by 4 runs

Toby Hayman - batted well for Burton againThere were runs galore to round off a very good evening of indoor cricket in Neyland, with Burton showing their all-round batting strength with 133 for 2 and Hook failed to reach their target in this excellent local derby by only five runs after Liam Miller had returned to the fray and belted the last two deliveries from Jack Davies for sixes after the Burton bowler had 2 for 5 from his first four balls.

Morgan Scale was the first Burton batsman to depart, run out for 12, but then Jack Davies (25), Toby Hayman (26) and Richard James (26) all had to retire after scoring quick runs that saw them 59 runs from the first five overs and 74 from the second half of their allocated overs.

Dan Ridge ended up with an unbeaten 20 and last man Harry Owen was the only other batsman to lose his wicket when he was bowled by Bradley Flood for 12 alongside 7 extras as they belted 7 fours, 3 sixes and 23 threes en route to a big tally but which could have been improved because there 14 deliveries which brought no runs.

Hook made an even better start as their score stood at 72 without loss after five overs as Liam Miller, Harry Makepeace (33) and Aled Phelps (27) all retired but then they lost momentum as Morgan Scale, Harry Owen and Dan Ridge got through their second overs with relatively few runs whilst Lewis Miller (5), Owen Phelps (8) and Flood (0) were unable to maintain the momentum, despite Burton gifting them 22 extras.

Liam Miller tried hard to play ‘catch-up cricket’ in a late dash for runs but it was Burton who held for victory by 4 runs against their neighbours!
