D.R. Morris Cup Second Round – last two matches:
Llanrhian’s debut game ends in defeat
Llangwm (92 for 3) beat Llanrhian (90 all out) by 7 wickets
Umpires: Neil Crawshaw & Allan Hansen
Scorers: Janice Brick & Billy Clarke
The bulk of the Llanrhian runs came from in-form batsman Paul Lewis as he struck a boundary-laden 43 alongside Jack Jones (12) and Fraser Watson 10 against the experienced bowling quartet of Noah Davies (3 for 15), Steve Mills (2 for 20), Ollie Davies (2 for 7) and skipper Matthew Kiff (1 for 17), ably assisted by some tight fielding.
Llangwm lost Joe Kiff early on to a bit of a slog shot but they continued their attacking policy to such an extent that keeper Watson didn’t have to pouch a single delivery as every ball was attacked.
Matthew Kiff (22), and Luke Brock (18 not out) made useful contributions as Steve Mills scored 31 but got out in true Llangwm style – going for a big six to win the game and getting out!
For Llanrhian there were wickets for Daf Williams (1 for 12), Jack Jones (1 for 25) and Joe Krellin (1 for 12) as Llangwm move into the last four – but Llanrhian are a developing team with some good players who will learn from games like this as part of their progress.
Neyland sound a clarion call to other clubs
Saundersfoot (162 for 6) lost to Neyland (164 for 1) by 9 wickets
Umpires: Chris Stapleton & Steve Williams
Scorers: Adge John and John Laugharne
But it has to be said that Neyland weren’t so impressive in the field as a couple of catches went down and there were runs conceded for misfields which were punished after The Seasiders had lurched to 15 for 2 but then had excellent innings by Gareth Edwards (38, including four cracking sixes), Danny Caine (two fours and two sixes in his 48, and Jon Mansbridge, who faced 32 balls and stroked a splendid 52 that contained three fours and five sixes as a tribute to an excellent batting track and gorgeous outfield that has been achieved by his father Paul Mansbridge and Chris Parker.
Ross Hardy was the pick of the Neyland bowlers with 3 for 26, ably assisted by Jack John (2 for 31) and Brad McDermott-Jenkins (1 for 38) as Patrick Hannon only conceded 20 runs from his four wicketless overs.
Murray started slowly for him but gradually increased his tempo and finished with 61 not out, including four fours and two sixes; whilst Sutton followed his superb 106 not out in the previous round with an equally impressive knock of 60 not out that contained seven fours and three big sixes.
That leaves Neyland joining Carew, Narberth and Llangwm as the ‘Big Four’ in the semi-finals, due to be played in the week commencing the 26th June, with the draw due to be made at the next meeting of the County Club Committee.
