D.R. Morris Cup Second Round:

Nick Davies - top scored for Carew

Carew cruise home as Tish batting collapses

St Ishmaels (115 all out) lost to Carew (147 for 8) by 32 runs

Umpires: Jon Willington & Mike Harries
Scorers: Wendy Bradshaw & Julie Davies

Toby Hayman - top scored for BurtonCarew suffered an early set-back when Rhys Davies was caught by Brennan Devonald off Jon Pawlett and worse was to follow as in-form skipper Shaun Whitfield was run out for a duck two balls later - but Nick Davies and Morgan Grieve settled things down until Davies departed at 57 as he was bowled for 31 with five boundaries to his name.

Grieve (18) followed  on 72 and there were excellent late runs by Gareth Lewis (18), Scott Richards (13) and especially Iori Hicks (20 not out) as ‘Mr Extras’ also contributed a vital 26 runs to further boost the total to a reasonable level.

In the Tish bowling the figures were as follows: Jon Pawlett 4-0–23-1; Brennan Devonald 4-0-30-0; Peter Bradshaw 4-0-26-0; Lewis Rhead 4-0-24-3; Robbie Thomas 4-0–31-0.

Tish made an even more disappointing start as key batsmen Phil Llewelyn and Jon Pawlett both scored 2 from 7 balls before falling to Iori Hicks with the aid of respective good catches by Sion Jenkins and Scott Richards - and Hicks was soon again involved with a catch that shifted Phil Cockburn (12) just as he looked to be moving up a gear.

At that stage Brennan Devonald was going like a train; the opener blitzing 7 fours and 3 big sixes en route to 60 from only 33 deliveries - but only Peter Bradshaw, coming in lower than usual at No 6, managed 12 not out as everyone else came and went quickly.

Rhys Davies grabbed the vital scalp of Devonald in his 2 for 26 spell as Iori Hicks did the early damage with 2-13, alongside Mark White (2 for 28) and Sion Jenkins (1 for 18) as Tish were shot out in only  14-5 of their allotted 20 overs.

Narberth achieve a challenging run chase with five overs to spare

Kyle Quartermaine - excellent 66 not out as Narberth win

Narberth (162 for 5) beat Burton (161 for 4) by five wickets

Umpires: Steve Williams & David Brandon
Scorers: Carmen Haltam & Dan Griffiths

Narberth marched into the Duggie Morris Cup semi-finals at the expense of a Burton side that must have been quietly confident at the interval after amassing a healthy 161 for 4 - but then were blitzed by a typically blistering unbeaten innings from Narberth skipper Kyle Quartermaine that saw them win with plenty in hand.

Batting first, Burton reached 93 in 12 overs with  Jon Venables belting four fours and a big six in his 43 before he was bowled by Ben Hughes, and was quickly followed by Jack Davies (3) as they were both bowled by Ben Hughes (2 for 37) - and worse was to follow as
Toby Hayman, after  stroking seven boundaries in his 50 before he was caught by Ben Quartermaine off Matthew Johns as they slipped to 107 for 2 in the 15th over.

There was still tome for Burton to add more runs thanks to some big hitting by Dan Ridge (three sixes and a four in his 28 before he was out in the final over, with Luke Hayman unbeaten on 18 (row fours) at the other end.

Lewis Hough only conceded 18 in his four overs for Narberth and there were only 20 apiece given away by Davy Johns and Loui Davies.

Narberth lost reliable run-getter Richard Adams for only five as they set out in pursuit but then Kyle Quartermaine joined Aaron Keane (21) as they set the platform well before Lewis Hough (20) also batted well.

But the impetus swung irrevocably in Narberth’s favour as  Rodri Dyer struck 6 fours and a six in his 37 and Kyle Quartermaine blasted six fours and five huge sixes so that 54 runs out of his superb 66 not out came without running and Narberth were home and dry with relatively unexpected ease.

Matthew ‘Snowy’ John picked up 2 for 12 in two overs and Morgan Scale grabbed 2 for 28 in his four overs as the pick of the Burton bowlers whilst Jack Davies finished with 1 for 27 in two overs as Narberth showed what a dangerous side they can be in this limited overs stuff.

Brennan Devonald - great batting in Tish defeat
