Jack Harries - scored 58 in 30 deliveries for PembrokeGareth Long - cracked 53 from 27 balls for PembrokePembroke marched into the 2023 final of the Allan Brown Cup Final with a convincing win against a Crymych side which won the toss and asked the home side to bat first - and must have regretted that fact as Pembroke raced to 100 in the eighth over.

Leading the way was skipper Jack Harries and new recruit Gareth Long, who has moved into the area from Upper Rhondda and made an immediate impact - and by the time Long departed for 53 from 27 balls (7 fours and 2 sixes), Pembroke had a scored 110 runs.

Harries stroked 11 boundaries as he maintained his excellent form before he was removed for 58 in 30 deliveries and from then on all the home batsmen tried hard to maintain the momentum with cameos from Jon Rogers (13), Billy Wood (20), Luke Butler (10), Andrew Price (20) alongside an important 29 from ‘Mr Extras’.

For Crymych there were wickets for Ifan Lewis (1 for 56), Chris Blake (2 for 62)m Rhodri Thomas (2 for 41) and Tabi Mair (3 for 34).

The visitors needed a good start but struggled from the outset against Price (3 for 17) and Sam Davies (1 for 25) as only Rhodri Thomas (10) and Richard Thorne (five fours in his 32 not out) ever looked comfortable, especially once Cheri Brace joined the fray and his cannny slow stuff saw him claim excellent figures of 4 for 9.

Pembroke also fielded well as wicket-keeper Luke Butler set the tone and despite conceding 14 extras they limited the Preseli Men to 74 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs to gain victory by such a huge margin.

Hundleton win by a single run in tense finish

Hundleton (171 for 3) beat Fishguard & Goodwick (170 for 3) by 1 run

Leighton O Connor - scored an excellent 65 not out for HundletonGeorge Murphy - looked a class act as he claimed the majority of the runs for FishguardHundleton edged home by a single run in this thriller of a match that would have graced a final as they scored a challenging 171 for 3 and then resisted a response inspired by George Murphy to edge home by a single after needing three runs off the final delivery.

Hundleton and Fishguard showed why they are second and third respectively in division four in a game that was a credit to both clubs and the former club put on 39 before Craig Williamson was well caught by Alistair Davies off Dan Griffiths having belted two boundaries in his nine runs in support of Jonathan ‘Taffy’ Williams, who stroked six boundaries in his 31 before he fell to Alistair Davies, assisted by a catch from Nigel Delaney, still one of the best fielders in the county within his age group.

Ben Adams (16) then joined Leighton O’Connor and started to look settled but he was bowled by George Murphy and it was left to Robson Walkey to join Welsh international veteran O’Connor in an unbroken stand of 116 where he had three fours and  a six in his 35 not out and O’Connor scored an excellent 65 not out that included six fours and three big sixes.

A target of 172 was a huge one but it soon assumed mountainous proportions for Fishguard as they lost key run makers Nigel Delaney (4) and Huw Evans (9) respectively to Adams and O’Connor, both well caught by wicket-keeper Dylan Davies, who also caught Scott Delaney after he had scored 27 (four fours) and shared in a partnership of 101 with No 3 George Murphy, who looked a class act as he claimed the majority of their runs.

He reached 94 not out, with six fours and six huge sixes, as he was joined by Senedd member Sam Kurtz needing 18 off the last over, bowled by Stuart McNiffe, and although they made a valiant attempt the challenge was too great and Hundleton’s reward was a place against neighbours Pembroke in the final at Whitland on Sunday, 2nd July.

It should be quite a match!
