Kilgetty Youth (101 for 3) lost to Neyland Youth ( (102 for 3) by 7 wickets
Umpires: Steve Alford & Huw Simkins
Scorers: Becky Badham & Sarah Arran
Venue: Lawrenny Cricket Club
Man of the Match: Jack Badham (Kilgetty)
Man of the Match Sponsor: Phil Tallett
Kilgetty build steadily but restricted by good boing in their run rate
After tireless work by Malcolm Thomas, Chris Williams and Les Jones as the Lawrenny ground staff following recent inclement weather it was Badham who caught the eye when Kilgetty batted first, alongside Kevin Sine (25), bowled by Dylan McGuire with the score on 61, but in 15 overs, with Rhydian Eynon following on the same score, both bowled by Dylan McGuire as he finished with an excellent 2 for 14.
Badham ended up on 56 not out, including three fours and a six but tight bowling by Charlie Malloy, who bowled Iori Badham for 7 in his figures of 1 for 17, Atticus Kingston (0 for 13) and Leo Power (0 for 14) meant that a final tally of 101 for 3 in 20 overs was perhaps less than Kilgetty might have hoped for.
Neyland pace their reply perfectly
As Neyland gave chase they lost the early wicket of Corey Riley (bowled by Iori Richards for 6) but Charlie Malloy (24) and Watkins (45 not out, including a four and a six and some excellent running between the wickets) got them back on track.
Malloy eventually departed for 24, adjudged lbw to Jack Badham, and Sine took a good catch off Ollie Tucker (1 for 20) to remove Kingston for a single but Watkins found another willing partner in Korey Arran, who plundered three boundaries in his 14 not out – and with 16 extras also on the scorecard it was Neyland who prevailed with an over to spare.
Martin has the final word
The post-match presentations were conducted by Martin Jones, the Junior and Youth Organiser of the Pembroke County Cricket Club and he praised the quality of the play in both camps, with a special mention for skippers Jack Badham and Charlie Malloy, all of which pleased him and Trevor Badham as respective coaches.
Martin also thanked the ground staff, alongside Sharon Buckle, Caroline Griffiths and Hannah Eynon for providing excellent refreshments for all involved – and thanked umpires Steve Alford and Huw Simkins, plus scorers Becky Badham and Sarah Arran, for the quality of their work.
Also mentioned in his ‘thank yous’ was Phil Tallett, of Bosherston & Stackpole CC, who as usual presented the man of the match trophy – and finally he thanked Phil Lloyd, on behalf of the Lloyd Family, who presented the trophy in memory of his late father David Lloyd, a former Hon Secretary of the Pembroke CCC.
