Nic Webster-Smith Memorial Match 2012:
Nic's memory maintained in style
The fourth Nic Webster-Smith Memorial match was recently played between Tenby and Kilgetty but due to the adverse weather conditions this year's game was again played on the Astroturf pitch at Greenhill School and resulted in both teams being able to play some good passing football.
Some tough tackling from both sides made this one of the more physical encounters in recent years, but it was played in a good spirit. Both sides were again made up of former friends and team mates of Nic's, many of whom had travelled a long way to be a part of the day, and the eventual winners of the Memorial Shield, donated by Scaffold 2000, were Tenby AFC.
Money raised for a wonderful cause
As in previous years, Nic's family requested that any money raised on the day should go towards the Cleddau Warriors Disability Football Club, which is now in its sixth season of football, and provides opportunities for both children and adults to learn the skills of the game whilst having lots of fun in the process. The club has over 30 members and takes part in disability football events all over the country. This is a fitting local charity as Nic spent time during his work placement in Year 12 at Brentford Football Club coaching disabled children within the community.
A raffle and donations raised £238 for the club. Nic's family, as well as the event organisers, hope this will help the Warriors to continue offering such a valuable experience to all of its members
The organisers would like to thank the following for making the day such a success;
Rob Thomas, manager at Tenby Leisure Centre for the free use of the Astroturf, Brian, Louise and all at Kilgetty AFC for their hospitality, the Co-op Kilgetty for donating the food, Jayne James for preparing the buffet, plus Charles Davies for refereeing the match. The following people are also thanked for their generous donations of raffle prizes:
