Nice thought by manager Micky
There was a moment of history relived at the Conygar Bridge Meadow Clubhouse of Haverfordwest County AFC last week when the Bluebirds Supporters' Association held its annual dinner and received a special gift from co-manager Micky Ellis.
Micky had gone to the trouble of acquiring one of the team shirts from the only occasion that Haverfordwest County managed to claim a place in the UEFA Cup and presented it to delighted supporters' club chairman Alan Thomas.
Micky makes his presentation
“We fully recognise the terrific support the association provide for the players, especially on long away trips,†he told members and guests. “There are a number of shirts framed on the walls so I thought it would be nice for you to be able to frame this special one.â€
He explained that as well as its number emblazoned on the back of the shirt there was also the date of the matches at home and in Iceland, as well as the gold star to recognise European participation.
Alan was delighted
Alan Thomas responded by saying how thrilled the supporters association were to receive the shirt and would have it prominently displayed on the clubhouse 'wall of fame'.
“It is a typical gesture from a club servant like Micky,†Alan told us afterwards, “and we appreciate the fact that the management recognises the support we try to give them in all sorts of ways.â€
Wayne's World
Co-manager Wayne Jones, who had coincidentally played in the UEFA Cup games for Haverfordwest County, also spoke about the management's plans for the rest of the season and in the foreseeable future.
“We aim to make sure that Haverfordwest County again take their rightful place in the Welsh Footballing set-up and although it is a long haul we promise that we will do our best,†said Wayne. “We are in contention at the top of the table and we will give it all we have to try and secure promotion back to the Welsh Premier League.â€
