Match abandoned at Hakin and Dragons earn a point against Tigers

The long awaited Manderwood Pembrokeshire Football League kicked-off on Tuesday night (August 20th) with games played in Division One.

Starting with the champions Hakin United whose match at home to Monkton Swifts was abandoned after only six minutes. Hakin United’s Steve Allen and Monkton Swifts’ Dan Harts contested for an aerial ball, as Harts landed he fell heavily and suffered a nasty compound fracture to his arm. Both teams agreed that the match could not be continued as the ambulance arrived at The Observatory. PembrokeshireSport.co.uk wishes the well-liked Harts, who is a former Viking a speedy recovery.

Last season’s runners-up Johnston drew 1-1 at West Dragons. Bradley Barrett missed a penalty for the Dragons before debutant Nicky Woodrow gave the Tigers the lead. Fifteen minutes from full time and substitute Jamie Ashman equalised to earn last season’s Division Two champions a point.

Goodwick United started their campaign with a convincing 5-0 victory at home against St Ishmaels. Jamie Evans grabbed a hat-trick with Scott Crawford and Ryan Howells also added their names to the score sheet.

Narberth won 6-3 against new boys St Clears at Jesse Road. Bluebirds’ new player boss Matthew Price bagged a hat-trick on his debut, plus Tony Evans, Dorian Davies and Morgan Preece scored for the homesters. In reply, Nick Squires, Ollie Evans and Rhodri Davies scored for The Saints.

Neyland hammered Hundleton 4-1 at The Athletic Ground. Jack Button, Jeremy Evans, Patrick Bellerby and Joe Croxford found the back of the net for the Nomads. The visitors’ solitary goal scorer was Rhodri Davies. Both teams observed a minute’s silence in memory of Grant Weston, the Hundleton footballer who sadly died last week while on holiday in Ibiza.

Tenby drew 2-2 against Merlins Bridge at home. Scott Ferney and Daryl Mansbridge scored for the homesters and Stephen McNabney grabbed a brace for the Wizards.

Saundersfoot Sports won 3-1 at Pennar Robins and got their campaign off to a dream start. Chris Milward (2) and Lewis Hurlow netted for the Sports, and a penalty converted by Phil Thompson was the only goal the Robins could conjure.
