Local teams create history in West Wales Intermediate Cup – Swifts go seven points clear
Three Pembrokeshire Football League football teams have reached the West Wales Intermediate Cup semi-finals - creating history in this competition, and Monkton Swifts won again and have gone seven points clear at the top of the Manderwood Pembrokeshire Football League First Division.
Starting in the cup, Hakin United defeated holders Goodwick United 3-1 at the Obs. Kieran O’Brien gave the Phoenix Lads a 1-0 cushion at the break. The Vikings came out firing in the second half and clinched victory with a brace from Nicky Woodrow and Ryan Wilson also added his team to the score sheet.
Carew narrowly won 3-2 to progress in the cup. The Rooks trailed 2-0 before brothers Sam and Jack Christopher scored for the homesters, then in the 89th minute Shaun Whitfield bagged a sensational winner.
Merlins Bridge convincingly won 5-2 against Plough Colts and reach the last four of the competition. The Wizards’ scorers were Adam Hawkins 2, Nathan Greene, Dai Davies and Joe Leahy.
In the First Division, top of the table Monkton Swifts won 9-0 against derby rivals Pennar Robins to move seven points clear. The Swifts’ goal scorers were Ben Steele 3, Dylan Davies 2, Martyn Carroll, Blake James, James Russell and Ryan Griffiths.
Narberth beat Milford United 5-3 at Jesse Road. Chris Brown 2, Dafydd Wright, Kyle Quartermaine and Ben John netted for the Bluebirds, whilst Liam Parr 2, and Jason Hicks scored for the Robins.
In a high scoring clash, Neyland beat Clarbeston Road 5-4. There was a brace each for Ollie Hughes and Kieron Howells and Mike Chandler was also on target for the Nomads, Jason Griffiths scored a terrific hat-trick for the Road and Richard Bevan was also on target.
St Clears crushed struggling Herbrandston 6-2. Will Evans was on target with a hat-trick and there was a brace for Steve Thomas and Sean Seymour Davies also struck for the on-fire Saints. Scott Reid scored twice in vain for the well-beaten visitors.
