Some cracking games in the top flight


There were six games completed in the Pembrokeshire Football League top flight on Saturday afternoon with some intriguing conclusions.

Conditions were sunny and windy which was a complete contrast to last week’s storms.

League leaders Goodwick United won 3-1 against derby neighbours Fishguard Sports at Phoenix Park to remain ten points clear. Wayne O’Sullivan’s Goodwick outfit were reduced to ten-men in the 16th minute as Nathan Greene was sent off. But the hosts recovered as Iestyn Evans, Luke Hayward and Kieran O’Brien all scored that gave Goodwick a 3-0 lead at half time. The Sports pulled a late consolation goal back through Kieran King.

Shane Walsh bagged four goals for Hakin UnitedSecond in table Hakin United convincingly defeated Monkton Swifts 6-0 at the Observatory. The Vikings led 2-0 at the interval and added four further goals in the second period. Leading the way was Shane Walsh who was on target with the first four goals, Ben Aldred taken down inside the box for a penalty which Justin Harding despatched plus Ryan Wilson added the sixth.

Third placed Clarbeston Road lost 1-5 at home against fourth placed Carew. Ben John gave The Road a slender 1-0 cushion at half time, but the Rooks gained the upper hand with a superb hat-trick by Adam Muskett plus one apiece for Sonny Phillips and Jacob Knox sealed a comfortable three points.

Merlins Bridge slipped to a narrow 1-2 defeat against Pennar Robins at the Racecourse. Craig Asparassa scored early for the visitors, but the Wizards equalised through Ben Davies as it stood at 1-1 at half time. Both teams created chances but four minutes from time 16-year-old Noah Davison scored a tremendous winner.

Third from bottom Neyland gained an impressive 1-0 win at home against seventh in the table, Hundleton. Leon Barrett scored the decisive winner in the 27th minute as The Nomads show fighting spirit in their quest to stay in top flight.

Bottom of the table Narberth, who are still pointless, narrowly lost 0-1 at home against second from bottom St Ishmaels. Brennan Devonald bagged an 80th minute winner to break the Bluebirds’ hearts.
