Dalling strikes late winner at the Obs
Hakin United 2 – Goodwick United 3
Rhys Dalling struck a late winner for thrilled Goodwick United who overcame champions Hakin United in a five-goal thriller at a dry and blustery Obs.
Chris O’Sullivan’s Phoenix Lads were delighted to leave the Obs with three points when it looked as if it would finish 2-2, but Dalling’s late strike kept his side’s unbeaten record intact as they sit six points clear of fifth placed Hakin.
It was the hosts who started brightly as Leon Luby cut in from the right and struck a low drive straight to keeper James Gwilt.
However, Scott Davies’ Vikings broke the deadlock in the eleventh minute with a superb goal, Camron Thomas’ cross from the left was met by a spectacular far-post volley by Jack Britton.
The visitors weathered the early storm and started to put the Vikings under pressure and were rewarded in the 30th minute when Nathan Greene equalised with a far post header, which stemmed from a long throw-in by Steff Hayes.
Three minutes after half time the visitors were awarded a penalty as Nathan Banner was deemed to concede a handball inside the box. Rhys Jones kept his nerve to finish confidently past Sam Franklin.
However, Banner made amends as he created the Vikings equaliser in the 68th minute, when the centre back’s long ball fell to Nicky Woodrow, who ran clear rounded Gwilt to tuck the ball into the empty net.
Two minutes later Goodwick were reduced to ten-men as Steven Dockerty was issued a second yellow card from referee Craig Templeton, who had a good game in charge.
But four minutes from full time the visitors conjured up a late winner when Luke Hayward’s telling pass found Dalling, and the striker coolly slotted home.
