Goodwick United deservedly crowned champions after defeating battling Monkton Swifts

Ceri Morgan presents silverware to Goodwick skipper Scott DelaneyGoodwick United were crowned champions after they overcame a dogged Monkton Swifts who didn’t hand it on a plate.
 
Chris O’Sullivans’s Phoenix Lads knew they had to win to clinch the title, but it was never easy as nerves and passion played it’s part in a highly entertaining clash at Monkton Lane.
 
All the visitors’ goals came from set pieces which Swifts’ boss Chris Lloyd knew was their strength.
 
The visitors opened the scoring in the 30th minute when Dan James’ corner fell to Jake Smith who struck a superb left foot volley which screamed into the net.
 
However, the Swifts reacted quickly as Daniel Davies skipped past Steff Hayes and whipped in a cross that Ben Steele buried clinically from 12 yards.
 
On the stroke of half time Goodwick regained the lead when a corner was flicked on by James Bryan and Will Haworth lashed home from twelve yards.
 
Jake Smith scored with a volley to give Goodwick the leadAfter the break, the Swifts kept putting Goodwick under pressure and in the 56th minute were awarded a penalty which Kyle Marsh did superbly to deny Steele.
 
Both sides created chances in an end-to-end battle, in the 85th minute Rhys Dalling was hauled down on the angle of the 18 yard box, up stepped dead ball specialist Rhys Jones who struck an unstoppable free kick which flew in the top corner off the inside of the post.
 
That was the defining moment for Goodwick United in what has been wonderful season as there was no way back for the battling Swifts.
 
At the post-match presentation, the Manderwood Pembrokeshire League officials namely Ian Baker congratulated Goodwick United on winning the title also chairman Ceri Morgan presented the medals and trophy.
 
In two weeks,’ time Goodwick United will play the winners of the Monkton Swifts v Kilgetty Senior Cup semi-final with the Phoenix Lads have got their eyes on a league and cup double.

Neyland make penalties count for a draw at Kilgetty

Max Bowman-Davies struck a last gasp penalty to earn Neyland a draw with Kilgetty at the Kingsmoor Ground.
 
The hosts twice took the lead, but twice the Nomads came back to score from the spot in this hard fought mid table clash.
 
In the 26th minute the visitors took the lead as Aidan Rees made no mistake from the spot, in the 39th minute Kilgetty equalised through Kyran Lewis.
 
After the break, this game continued to be keenly contested before Kilgetty took the lead in the 83rd minute as substitute Rhys Hewson found the back of Patrick Hannon’s net.
 
As the hosts were on the verge of securing the victory, the visitors were awarded their second penalty in stoppage time, up stepped Max Bowman-Davies who confidently equalised from twelve yards for the Nomads.

Vikings too strong for relegated Saints

As expected, Hakin United proved too strong for relegated St Clears, bagging seven goals without reply.
 
Last season’s champions will finish the season as runners-up, Scott Davies’ Vikings have had some terrific cup runs but will be disappointed they didn’t retain the title and win any silverware.
 
The Vikings totally controlled matters as they led 4-0 at the interval, In the 26th minute Justin ‘Skinny’ Harding opened the scoring, Jack Britton found the bottom corner with an edge of the area strike for the second.
 
Two further quick fire goals by Shane Walsh and a Harding penalty gave them a healthy cushion at half time.
 
After the break, the Vikings continued to press and were rewarded when Camron Thomas’ cross was turned into the net by Walsh for the fifth. Substitute Thomas who was back from an eight week injury lay off was cursed again as the youngster was carried off in a lot of pain with what looks like knee ligament damage, everyone wishes him a speedy a recovery.
 
In the 61st minute Adam John cut in off the wing and struck a superb left footed curler which flew in the top corner for the sixth, in the 76th minute Jake Merry added the seventh to complete the rout.
 
On Monday, 17th April night, Hakin United entertain Carew in an all Pembrokeshire West Wales Cup semi-final which will be staged at the Ogi Bridge Meadow Stadium, kick off 7.30pm.

Robins too hot for under strengthened Rooks

 

Pennar Robins 5 – Carew 1

 
Pennar Robins comfortably despatched of an under strengthened Carew outfit at  Bush Camp.
 
The hosts led 3-0 at half time as Liam Williams, Craig Asparassa and Conner Willis scored the goals for the Robins.
 
After the break, Adam Muskett pulled one back for the Rooks but the Robins finished strongly as Willis and Williams added late goals, the pair both finishing with a brace apiece.
 
This result is not taking anything away from Pennar as they deservedly put the Rooks to the sword, the visitors have their eye on an important West Wales Intermediate Cup with arch rivals Hakin United on Monday evening.
