Jones double sinks battling Carew
Carew 0 – Goodwick United 2
Ace midfielder Rhys Jones struck twice in the first half to secure victory for league leaders Goodwick United against battling Carew at the Gerald Hicks Recreational Field.
Manager Chris O’Sullivan’s Phoenix Lads stay two points clear of second placed Hakin United with a game in hand, whilst the Rooks sit precariously third from bottom on the same points as second from bottom Neyland.
Goodwick’s top scorer Jones opened the scoring in the 26th minute when the midfielder was taken down inside the box by goalkeeper James Harries for a stonewall penalty, dusted himself off as he made no mistake from 12 yards.
On the stroke of half time Jones scored an absolute screamer with a powerful 20 yard free kick which flew in the top corner, keeper Harries didn’t get a sniff.
The second half was a battle in heavy conditions underfoot, but the league leaders stayed firm to clinch the three points on the road, as they also kept a clean sheet as an added bonus.
Former Haverfordwest County skipper Sean Pemberton came off the bench to make his debut for Goodwick, the centre back nearly scored as he headed over the crossbar from a corner with one of his trademark headers, which boss O’Sullivan confessed afterwards with a chuckle, ‘he should have buried it!’
Next Saturday, 3rd February Goodwick travel to second in the table of the West Wales Premier League Rockspur Fords in the West Wales Intermediate Cup, which definitely should prove a tough nut for Goodwick to crack in their own backyard.

Rock bottom Sports will be happy they picked up a point on the Road, but Pennar will be disappointed they didn’t secure victory.
The hosts took the lead in the 28th minute as Kieran Smith made good ground down the left before he unselfishly pulled the ball back for Liam Williams who made no mistake with a far post tap in.
However, the lead was short lived as the visitors levelled matters just five minutes later as Jordan Griffiths assisted for Adam Lawrence who found the back of Rory Williams’ net.

On the stroke of half time the visitors were down to ten men as Luby was issued a straight red card by referee Gary Lewis.

The Road had previously lost their last two games and Matthew Fox’s team went out with a positive attitude as they led 2-0 at half time.
Midway through the first half Laurie Haworth opened the scoring before Ben John doubled the lead in the 39th minute thanks to a neat Travis Jones assist.
However, the Swifts rolled up their sleeves and doggedly got back in the game as Connor Hay pulled one back just after the break, then in 81st minute Ben Steele equalised as the visitors.

Shortly after the break the Robins added their third of the game as Reid unleashed a right footed effort which crashed in the roof of Devine’s net.
