Risca United 0 – Haverfordwest County 2

Greg Walters scored twice to help Haverfordwest County to a thoroughly deserved victory at Risca United.
The Bluebirds’ away form has been impressive, but their home performances will need to be better if they are going to challenge for honours when it comes to the business end of the season.

The visitors were reduced to ten-men with barely 20 minutes gone as midfielder Nicky Palmer was issued a straight red card for a rash challenge, but over the course of the 90 minutes 'The Cuckoos' had three players sent off, and incredibly finished the match with eight players.

Wonder strike

In the 35th minute the visitors opened the scoring when Walters unleashed a 35 yard screamer which flew into the top corner, and that wonder strike gave the Bluebirds a slender one-goal cushion at half time - and by that stage the Cuckoos also had had a defender and their goalkeeper sent for an early shower.

Ashley Bevan is maturing into a very good Welsh League player and he was a constant thorn in the home side's defence, and the striker was brought down for a penalty in the 75th minute that led to the visitors’ second goal. Antonio Facciuto had his spot kick parried and Walters reacted quickest and buried the rebound and secured another three precious points for the visitors on the road.

The Bluebirds will entertain league leaders Goytre next Saturday, 26th November, at the Conygar Bridge Meadow and kick off is at 2.30pm. It’s a game that Haverfordwest County will be looking to win and give their home fans something to cheer.
