JD Welsh Cup – Round 4
Haverfordwest County 1 – GAP Connah’s Quay Nomads 5
Matty Williams scored a well taken brace to help Welsh Premier GAP Connah’s Quay gain a comfortable passage into the quarter final at the expense of Welsh League Division One Haverfordwest County.
It was always going to be a tough ask for the Bluebirds to cause an upset against The Nomads who are currently in second position in the Welsh Premier.
Nomads’ dream start
The visitors got off to a dream start as they led 3-0 with barely 15 minutes on the clock, Les Davies struck the opener in the 11th minute, a minute later and Matty Owen found the back of the net, in the 15th minute Matty Williams made no mistake for the third, and he added a second goal in the 44th minute. On the stroke of half time Greg Walters pulled one back with a sweetly struck shot from edge of the area, as The Bluebirds trailed 1-4 at half time.
However, in the 55th minute Tom Field rifled home his side’s fifth goal and complete the scoring.
Not players fault
Bluebirds co-manager Chris O’Sullivan admitted that they were beaten by a quality side, but he admirably stated that they started with the wrong formation and it was not the players’ fault they found themselves conceding and chasing the tie, the management will take full responsibility, but he did say they played far better in the second half.
Next Saturday, 4th February, The Bluebirds are back in league action when they travel to Penybont, and will be looking to bounce back quickly with a positive result.
