Welsh League Cup – Round 1

Tredegar Town 0 – Haverfordwest County 3

Haverfordwest County grabbed three quick-fire goals in the opening 25 minutes to secure an impressive win at Tredegar Town on Wednesday night.

The Bluebirds arrived late at the ground, due to a traffic hold-up, but Sean Cresser and Tim Hicks’ team came out of the dressing rooms all guns blazing.

Leahy scores with volley

Impressive striker Joe Leahy headed onto the crossbar with only two minutes gone, three minutes later and the striker volleyed home the opener from eight yards.

The visitors doubled the lead on the ten minute mark, when skipper Sean Pemberton powered home a header at a corner.

Tredegar were finding it tough as they struggled to cope with wave after wave of attack from the lively Bluebirds.

On 25 minutes the visitors grabbed a third goal, which effectively killed off the tie. Veteran central midfielder Nicky Palmer broke clear and coolly slotted home, putting the goalkeeper the wrong way.

Rodon outstanding at the back

Sam Rodon once again had an outstanding game at the heart of the defence for The Bluebirds, Ricky Watts worked tirelessly in midfield and Leahy was an excellent target man up front, and a constant thorn in the Tredegar defence.
