Haverfordwest County 2 – Taffs Well 1

Two first half goals from Joe Leahy and Steffan Williams earned Haverfordwest County a hard fought victory against Taffs Well at the Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium.

This victory moved The Bluebirds up to third in the table, two points behind league leaders Llanelli Town, while The Wellmen are in sixth spot.

Cool Leahy finish

The homesters opened the scoring in the 16th minute; Leahy broke clear and coolly slotted from a tight angle past keeper Josh Gould.

Conah McFenton didn’t have a lot to do between the sticks for Haverfordwest County, skipper Sean Pemberton was soloid at the back alongside Sam Rodon, Tim Hicks, Matthew Broome and Kristian Speake.
The industrious Greg Walters worked hard in midfield, with Ricky Watts, Dan Williams also making decent contributions.

Steffan strikes

The Bluebirds added a second goal in the 38th minute, Steffan Williams beat The Wellman offside trap, ran clear and duly slotted past Gould to give his team a two-goal cushion at the break.
The second half was a cagey affair, with the home side staying compact and making life difficult to the visitors to break down.

The visitors were reduced to ten-men when Marcus Jones was sent-off following a second bookable offence incident, but three minutes later The Wellmen pulled a goal back. Warren Jones’ long range effort bobbled over the outstretched arm of McFenton, but The Bluebirds stood firm for the remainder of the game, and chalked up their fifth win of the season.

On Friday, 20th October, Haverfordwest County face a stiff away test at Briton Ferry Llansawel.
