Haverfordwest County 1 – Penybont 2
Penybont came from behind to nick the points against stunned Haverfordwest County at the Conygar Bridge Meadow.
This result lifts Penybont two points clear at the top of the table, and The Bluebirds have lost their last three league games and slipped down the table to third, but Sean Cresser’s men have two games in hand over the leaders.
Steffan bags opener
The Bluebirds opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, with Steffan Williams slotting past keeper Rhus Wilson from inside the box, it gave his side a slender one-goal cushion at the break.
The second half was a cagey affair, but the visitors equalised in the 70th minute, Kane Owen scoring directly from a corner, young goalkeeper Conah McFenton should have dealt with it better.
Hammer blow
Then five minutes later The Bluebirds were dealt a hammer blow when Penybont added a second goal through Marcus Griffiths. The striker finding space inside the area and drilling a low shot into the bottom corner.
Cresser’s side pressed hard for an equaliser as skipper Sean Pemberton headed over the crossbar from a corner and Nicky Palmer lashed a shot high and wide.
This result has dented The Bluebirds’ title aspirations and they must quickly try to find their impressive first half of the season form if they are to have any realistic chance of the title and promotion to the Welsh Premier.
