Afan Lido 1 – Haverfordwest County 2

Haverfordwest County overcame a determined Afan Lido outfit at the Marston’s Stadium to move back up to third in the table.

After three straight home defeats it was important that The Bluebirds gained a positive result and kept themselves in the mix for the race for the title. And that’s exactly what The Bluebirds deservedly got was a good performance and three points on the road.

Sean Cresser’s Bluebirds are five points behind leaders Llanelli Town and have a game in hand, and their next game is a visit to Stebonheath to face the leaders on Tuesday, 27th March.

Walters scores wonder goal

The Bluebirds played with a strong wind in their favour, and took the lead through a ‘Beckham’ style strike from halfway by Greg Walters, which sailed over Lido goalkeeper Steve Cann caught off his line.

Midway through the first area midfielder Declan Carroll took a heavy knock and was replaced by Ryan Thomas, who making his debut after recently signing from Cwmamman United.

Danny doubles lead

The Bluebirds doubled the lead when goal scorer Walters assisted with a neat defence splitting ball and Dan Williams raced clear and coolly slotted past Cann to give his side a tw0-goal cushion at half time.

After the break and Williams should have grabbed his second goal of the match for the visitors, the striker broke clear but struck his low shot agonisingly wide of the target.

Lido down to ten men

In the 76th minute Lido were reduced to ten-men when Ben Thomas was issued a red card for a nasty foul on Steff Williams.

Deep in injury time and Lido scored a consolation goal when Liam McCreesh’s direct free kick from an acute angle flew in the top corner of Connor McFenton’s net.
