JD Cymru Premier –Conference Play-off:
Aberystwyth Town 2 - Haverfordwest County 2
Haverfordwest County came from behind twice to secure a draw against Aberystwyth Town at Park Avenue.
Both teams came into this clash in indifferent form, both camps must have felt pleased to pick up a point at the final whistle.
All the goals were scored in the first period - in a highly end-to-end entertaining tussle, both sides created chances in the second period to win it.
Early strike
The hosts opened the scoring early when Owain Jones struck a shot from the corner of the 18-yard box over keeper Wojciech Gajda, who was way off his line.
Wayne Jones’ men equalised in the 31st minute with a well-orchestrated move with a sublime finish by Jack Wilson. Dan Summerfield, Ben Fawcett was involved as Danny Williams squared to Wilson who struck a low shot in the far corner.
The Seasiders were awarded a penalty in the 42nd minute which Jamie Reed comfortably dispatched from 12 yards.
Great goal
However, two minutes later the visitors levelled matters with a great goal. Danny Williams beat a defender, the striker cut in from the left and curled home in off the far post.
At half time it was level at two goals apiece with everything to play for in the second period.
There was plenty of pulsating action in the second half, but neither could produce an end product.
Williams drilled a 30-yard effort over the bar, Marc Williams looped a header straight to Gajda.
Fawcett missed a glorious chance to put the visitors ahead when he was set-up by Wilson. Fawcett teed-up Corey Shephard but his goal bound shot was blocked. Roberts pulled off a comfortable save from an Elliot Scotcher header.
Marc Williams volleyed wide from the edge of the box. Wilson’s long thro in the box caused chaos, Shephard’s volley deflected over the bar by Scotcher.
The Seasiders pressed as Franklin shot high and wide, Gajda gathered a comfortable header by Bradford. Marc Williams volleyed wide right on time.
Boss has his say…
Haverfordwest County manager Wayne Jones:
“It’s the best we’ve played in the last four or five weeks.
“We really should have won it, Aber could have had no qualms had we won, but we didn’t take our chances.
“I was really pleased with the lads’ positive attitude and I want them to play with the same conviction in our last two games of the season.”
