Bala Town 1 – Haverfordwest County 1

Bala Town came from behind to salvage a point against unbeaten Haverfordwest County at Maes Tegid.

The visitors have now taken four points from their opening two games of the season whilst Bala Town have picked up their first point of the campaign.

In the 34th minute Jack Wilson gave the visitors the lead but Bala equalised in the 83rd minute through Ollie Shannon as both teams had to be content with a share of the spoils.

Haverfordwest County started brightly as Fawcett nodded onto to Jordan Davies who blazed his shot wide. Minutes later Fawcett tried to round keeper Ramsay,  but the striker went to ground and was booked for simulation.

Midway through the first period the visitors were unlucky not to break the deadlock, Ramsay was nearly caught out as lively Jordan Davies struck the post.

Wilson bags opener

However, the visitors deservedly opened the scoring as Henry Jones’ superb long crossfield ball found Wilson beyond the defence before he took a touch and then nonchalantly struck in the bottom corner.

Ten minutes after the interval Davies tried to get on the end of an inviting ball by Fawcett, but he caught keeper Ramsey and picked up a yellow.

Fawcett was denied by an excellent stop by Ramsay following a neat header by Ricky Watts which set up the front man.

Seven minutes from full time The Lakesiders equalised as they hit the Bluebirds with a swift counter attack as substitute Wall made inroads in the Bluebirds’ half before slipping an inviting ball just inside the box to Shannon who drilled his shot into the net, despite Lewis Brass getting a hand to it.

It was a cruel blow for the visitors who should have come away with all the points, but they can take heart from the fact they have made an impressive start to the season.

Pennock says we created enough chances

Bluebirds’ boss Tony Pennock: “We created enough chances today to have won it. We spoke before the game of how Bala Town is a physical side, we matched them, but unfortunately, we leaked a late goal which saw them earn a point.”

Haverfordwest County chairman Rob Edwards tweeted: “Hard to accept we didn’t win that. Played the better football, and created the better chances, but didn’t take them. To be disappointed at not taking three points away at Bala is a credit of how we have started the season. An away point and something to take home.”
