Haverfordwest County 2 – Newtown 3
Aaron Williams bagged a late winner to secure Newtown a terrific fightback victory over a stunned Haverfordwest County outfit on a wet afternoon at the Bridge Meadow Stadium.
Bluebirds’ skipper Dylan Rees gave his side the lead, which was cancelled out by Louis Roubles’ equaliser, in stoppage time before the interval up popped Jack Wilson to score that gave the hosts a slender 2-1 lead. Midway through the second period The Robins equalised through Aaron Williams, five minutes from full time the same man bagged the winner.
Haverfordwest County manager Tony Pennock played the same starting line-up that narrowly lost 3-2 against Penybont in midweek, Goalkeeper Lee Idzi who signed earlier this week returned for his third spell with the club and took his place on the bench alongside Ricky Watts plus four academy players.
Skipper Rees breaks deadlock
Jamie Veale corner, but on the 15-minute mark the skipper broke the deadlock for the hosts, a headed clearance fell to Rees who struck a vicious first-time volley which crashed into the far corner of the net.
In the 29th minute The Robins equalised as Robles made no mistake from inside the Bluebirds’ area. Six minutes later the visitors were unlucky not to take the lead as George Hughes’ wicked low cross rebounded off Bluebirds’ defender Lee Jenkins’ boot and struck the post, the rebound fell to Zeli Ismail who struck his shot wide.
Wilson gives Bluebirds interval lead
The Bluebirds got their noses in front in first half stoppage time, Ryan George broke down the right his cross caused havoc as Ben Fawcett touched to Wilson, the latter made no mistake at the far post.
Two minutes after the interval the hosts created a good chance as Wilson broke down the right and his low cross was just missed by Veale who slid in, minutes later Jordan Davies’ snap shot from an acute angle was palmed away by keeper Dave Jones.
Williams’ brace seals comeback
In the 54th minute The Robins equalised as Williams’ acrobatic effort inside the box beats Zac Jones. Then Pennock’s men suffered heartache as Williams added a third to see The Robins nick the points and leave the hosts feeling bitterly disappointed that they got nothing from the game.
