JD Cymru Premier – Play Off Conference
Caernarfon Town 2 – Haverfordwest 0
Caernarfon Town claimed two second half goals to seal victory against Haverfordwest County at the Oval.
After a goalless first half the Canaries grabbed crucial goals through Laurie Bell and Darren Thomas to secure the points in the opening game of the Paly Off Conference.
In Phase One both teams won their home games, however, the Bluebirds were confident of getting something out of this game after the beat Connah’s Quay Nomads in their last match before the split.
Zac Jones was called into action early as he tipped a Iwan Cartwight header from a corner over the crossbar.
Minutes later at the other end, Henry Jones’ teasing cross towards Elliott Dugan is palmed away by Josh Tibbetts.
New signing Jack Leahy had a shot blocked by Tibbetts as the Bluebirds pressed and Duggan drilled a low effort inches wide.
It was end to end as Thomas Lloyd-Marsh’s audacious bicycle kick was tipped over by Jones.
On the half hour mark Jack Wilson’s excellent cross found Ben Fawcett who looped his header over the bar.
The second half started slowly with neither side creating much in front of goal, on the hour mark Tony Pennock made two changes as Duggan and Leahy were replaced by Jordan Davies and Ioan Evans respectively.
Two minutes later the Canaries broke the deadlock as Bell found the back of Jones’ net from inside the box.
On 70 minutes the visitors went close to levelling matters when Ioan Evans’ corner was met by Kyle Patten’s powerful header which Tibbetts pulled off a brilliant save to deny him.
In the 72nd minute the hosts added their second of the game, skipper Jazz Richards lost possession on the right, a swift attack led to Thomas who slotted past Jones at his near post to secure the points.
Next Saturday, 18th February the Bluebirds entertain Flint Town United who hammered Aberystwyth Town 5-0 at home will be the visitors to the Ogi Bridge Meadow Stadium, kick off 2.30pm.
