Cardiff City progressed to the third round of the Nathaniel MG Cup following a comfortable victory against a young battling Haverfordwest County outfit at the Ogi Bridge Meadow Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
 
After a tough four weeks,  the Bluebirds’ impressive European cup journey came to end last Thursday even so Tony Pennock rested his first team squad and gave an opportunity to the club’s talented youngsters in this cup tussle.
 
There were senior debut appearances for Jack Nicholas, Jey Uddin, Luc Owen, Fletcher Picton, Callum Shirt and Dan John also Rio Dyer made his first start after he came off the bench away in North Macedonia.
 
Iori Humphreys skippered the home outfit in front of a good crowd on dry decent afternoon.
 
The visitors Championship hopefuls bagged two goals in each half and they were all scored by impressive 18-year-old striker Cian Ashford.
 
In the previous round City defeated Cambrian & Clydach on penalties, however this time Ashford scored twice in the opening 25 minutes, and he was also on target in the 47th and 66th minutes to secure victory.
 
Haverfordwest County’s JD Cymru Premier campaign starts next Friday, 11th August when they entertain Pontypridd United at the Ogi Bridge Meadow Stadium, kick off is at 7.45pm.
