Pembrokeshire swimming success at national awards
Pembrokeshire County Swimming has made a splash at the recent Swim Wales Awards, the biannual awards which celebrate the achievements of participants in Welsh aquatics, recognising the efforts of coaches, volunteers and swimmers.
Two young swimming officials from Tenby Dolphins Swimming Club - Abigail Hicks from Tenby and Alison Sharratt of Pembroke – scooped the Team category.
The pair are both part of the 'Young Officials' Millennium Volunteer programme and are youngest officials with Swim Wales.
Abigail has been part of the programme since she was 14 years old, after withdrawing from swim competition and Alison has become an official within the last year. Another member of the Tenby Dolphins, Margaret Sharratt, came runner up in the 'Volunteer' category. She had been nominated for her refreshment provision - especially her tea-stirring abilities!
Meanwhile, Carys Thomas from Pembroke and District Club, and now training with Pembrokeshire County Swimming Performance Squad, was nominated in the Junior Female Swimmer Award. Carys qualified to swim in every event at the ASA National Age Group Championships as well as qualifying for British Trials in 2011. She was a semi finalist in the 200m Individual Medley and placed 9th in the 800m freestyle in 2012.
