Swimmers dive into first meet of the season
212 of the County's top swimmers – aged from six to 49 took part in the first major County swimming event of the season as they competed at the Pembrokeshire Age Group Championships at the weekend.
Held at Haverfordwest Leisure Centre, the annual championships is the first licensed swimming event of the season.
Coach Paul is full of praise
With full electronic timing and a scoreboard, members of the County's five local swimming clubs competed against each other, providing an opportunity for young swimmers to achieve times that enable them to qualify for higher standards of competition outside the county.
“Swimming in Pembrokeshire is going from strength to strength,†said Paul Dowey, County swimming development coach.
“We have a strong partnership with Pembrokeshire Leisure – the leisure services arm of Pembrokeshire County Council - to develop the sport from beginners to elite swimmers.
“Swimmers from Learn-to-Swim are provided with a clear pathway through to competitive swimming at which point the development clubs take the lead to encourage swimmers onto even higher standards,†he said.
