Indoor Cricket Week Two:

Cresselly:Whitland win well as the

Dock fail to field a team

Competing Teams: Cresselly & Whitland
Venue: The Meads Leisure Centre, Milford Haven
Umpire: Alan Hansen, assisted by Gregg Miller & Patrick Hannon
Scorers: Gregg Miller & Patrick Hannon (Neyland)

Whitland made a good start to their 2013 indoor cricket season as they beat a Cresselly team which created history by having two young lady players in Megan Jenkins and Lauren Arthur.

But both teams and organiser Wendy Bradshaw, plus regular umpire Alan Hansen, were understandably disappointed that Pembroke Dock failed to raise a team so that their long journeys to the venue produced just one match, where the experienced Whitland team won by 66 runs.

Cresselly and Whitland also received two points each for the Dock's non-appearance but both teams agreed they would much preferred to have played!

Whitland Match details and Scorecards:

Whitland showed their credentials at this competition as Paul and Matthew Davies put on 50 before Paul retired on 25, with Matthew finally departing for 23 with the score on 69, bowled by Luke Cole, just one run after David Dunfee (7) had given a return catch to Tom Arthur.

Iestyn Scourfield also retired when he reached 25 and although Luke Cole did well to run out Owain Evans for 6 runs there was still plenty to come for Whitland as last man Dai Lee chipped in with 13 not out as Paul Davies also returned to the crease to end up as top scorer on 43 not out. There were also 19 extras as Whitland finished up with a useful tally of 136 for 3.

Cresselly suffered a blow as Luke Cole was bowled by the experienced Dai Lee (3) with only 12 on the board but Luke Arthur and Bobby Webb batted well before both had to retire when they reached 25. It was the beginning of the end for Cresselly because Dai Lee grabbed the wickets of Huw Evans and Lauren Arthur without scoring to finish with a 3 for 9 haul. Paul Davies had Megan Jenkins caught by David Dunfee and there was just time for Tom Arthur to return to the crease before he was run out for 28, leaving Whitland as worthy winners.
