Schools take on boccia challengeSchool teams from Fishguard and Haverfordwest bowled them over at this year’s Boccia Schools’ tournament as Ysgol Bro Gwaun won the secondary school title, while a team from Fenton School won the final of the primary school competition.
 
Sponsored by Valero, the annual competition, organised by Sport Pembrokeshire - the sports development arm of Pembrokeshire County Council – in  collaboration with Disability Sport Wales, was held last week at Milford Haven Leisure Centre
 
Record entry
 
A record entry of 18 teams took part in this year’s competition, including teams from Fenton, Glannau Gwaun, Prendergast, Pembroke Dock Community, Pembroke Autistic Centre, Milford Haven Comprehensive, Sir Thomas Picton, Portfield and Ysgol Bro Gwaun in Fishguard.
The teams competed in a round robin competition with the two highest scoring teams meeting in the final.
Schools take on boccia challenge
The secondary final was between Pembroke United from Pembroke Autistic Centre and Bro Gwaun Tigers, with the Tigers winning by 8 points to 4. 
The final of the primary competition was between Pembroke Dock Community Red Team and Fenton Crusaders with Fenton winning by 11 points to 1.
 
Well reffed
 
The games were refereed by Brian Waters and Keith Leighton from Saundersfoot Rotarians and Sian and Liz Jones from Crymych Panthers. 
The trophies were presented to the winners and runners up by Will James of Valero.
Angela Miles, disability sports development officer for Sport Pembrokeshire said she was delighted at the growing interest in the sport.
