Just 11 days after competing in Chicago and winning two more world crowns, Paul Murphy flew to Holland to compete at the 2013 WPU world championships and again claimed two world titles and world records.

To gain success in the one category of powerlifting was superb but to double up in such a short space of time, with little opportunity for recovery, shows what a power Murphy is in his chosen sport and why he is esteemed world-wide for his performances.

Having been invited by the British Powerlifting Federation to join their powerlifting and deadlift teams, he again lifting in the 90kg master 45+ and he set his new world records in the squat (287.5kgs), deadlift (275kgs) and a final total 707.5kgs.

Not content with that world record, Murphy was back in the arena two hours later and competed in the world single lifts and pulled a new 275kgs world record deadlift again. That meant that Murphy had won his 15th and 16th world titles.

“I was pleased with my form after so little time to recoup my strength,” said Murphy, “especially since I sustained a couple of injuries earlier in the season.”

It was, however, fitting end to his year and he plans to continue carrying the Pembrokeshire Flag for at least another season where he will be looking to add to his amazing tally of world titles and world records.
