British Legion snooker players Gareth Barratt and David Malloy won the Hubert Townsend Shield for the third year running at the Manchester Club on Monday night.

Their opponents were Matthew Holder and Tim John, of Hook Sports Club, in this popular competition is for division two players, with the final being the best of five frames, but with the Hook boys just unable to register a frame.

The Legion pair started well in a typically tight first frame, with David potting well to eventually take the frame.

Matthew put the pressure on in the second frame with an early break of 22, but the experienced Legion pair pegged back the lead and eventually took the frame on the high scoring colours.

The Legion pair got off to a good start in the third frame, and kept the pressure on to win the frame, Gareth potting a long black to seal victory.

The referees for the evening were Malcolm King and Ian Ashworth, but David and Gareth will not be able to defend their title next year as their team has been promoted to division one.
