Three SAW champs in Welsh Open competition

On Saturday 12th April, lifters from SAW Cymru and its outreach club - South Three SAW champs in Welsh Open competitionPembs Weightlifting Club - competed in a National Open Weightlifting competition, the SA1 Open, held at Swansea.
 

Triple titles for SAW

 
For Anita Madan, Alex John and Louis Thomas, all members of SAW, this was their third competition and expectations were high after these lifters had previous won their weight category in the Welsh Schools back in January. All three lifters demonstrated great determination and effort to once again put in a good performance, with Anita winning the U17's, Alex the U15's and Louis the U14's.

In these impressive performances Anita snatched 41kg and clean & jerThree SAW champs in Welsh Open competitionked 51kg, with

Alex lifting an impressive 60kg in the clean and jerk, whilst Louis broke the Welsh Schools record in both the snatch and combined total.
 

SPWC also do well

 
South Pembs Weightlifting Club also entered three lifters in their first-ever competition. With a large crowd watching the competition, there was a great atmosphere and the South Pembs lifters demonstrated solid performances and managed to keep their nerve throughout the competition.

Brittany Thomas won her body weight class, whilst Dominic Hicks and Andrew Murphy lifted personal bests in both the snatch and the clean and jerk.

SAW’s Simon is delighted

 
SAW Cymru coaches are Simon Roach and Owain Rowlands, with South Pembs WL coach Justin Head.
“We are delighted with the rapid progress of the sport within Pembrokeshire,” said Simon, “and extremely delighted with the recent success of SAW and its outreach club South Pembs WL.

“SAW will be at St. Davids on Wednesday 28th May for the Queen's Baton relay - demonstrating and also putting on a 'come and have ago in the sport of Weightlifting'

“We would like to also wish our coach Owain Rowlands all the very best in the British Seniors on the 10th May.”
