Form book overturned in this week’s games
There were a couple of interesting results this week in division one.
Balfour A, the reigning champions, got off to a bad start this season so they have been trying to get back into contention and this week played the current top of the table team Saundersfoot away and pulled off a fantastic 5-0 win.
Waterloo A who were 2nd in the table, lost 5-0 to the Black Rabbit who were the bottom of the table side but also ripped up the current form book!

Saundersfoot v Balfour Club
Frame 1; Dickie Parcell vs John Smith
Both players were neck and neck for most of the frame but Dickie benefited from five flukes to frustrate John and at one point had a 20 lead. John played some excellent match snooker, not allowing Dickie’s good fortune to upset him. The game went to the colours and Dickie potted the blue, only needing the pink to win but missed a speculative long pot. John potted the pink and screwed the white all the way up the table to get position on a tricky black which he potted in the middle to win the frame.
Frame 2; Arran Chesmore v Ray Hoare
This frame saw the young up and comer in the league verses Ray Hoare the now veteran with just 40 years playing in the league. The frame had a cagey opening, but Ray started to pot well and soon built a 20 lead, putting pressure on Arran to respond. Unfortunately for Arran his attempts to get back in the frame simply gave Ray more chances and the frame was over before getting to the colours.
Frame 3: Mark Cleevely v Terry McBride
This vital frame pitted the current singles champion Mark Cleevely against Terry McBride, the previous singles champion. The game was very cagey with neither player able to get a clear opportunity to score good points. The game remained close all the way through. Similar to the first frame, Mark had first bite at the pink to win the frame, but left Terry in to take the pink and black to win the frame.
Frame 4: Darren Morgan vs John Butterfield
The Balfour included John Butterfield, who joined the club’s A team this season from the now disbanded Manchester A team. Both players made a positive start to the frame, potting well and the frame remained level until around the halfway mark where a few good safety shots from John put Darren in trouble, allowing John to build nearly a 40 lead. John consolidated his lead and eventually won the frame on the brown.
Frame 5: Dean Ludlow verses Simon Pearce.
The frame was very cagey in the early stages with both players unable to get going. Dean had fluked a few outrageous reds, but was unable to capitalise on his good fortune and allowed Simon in to score a very useful 44 break. It could have been more, but the last two reds were quite awkward to get good position on. Dean needed three snookers and managed to get a cracking snooker causing Simon to give away 6 points after fouling on the pink - however, Simon managed to close out the frame by potting yellow and green.
