Pembrokeshire Under 14s (111 for 5) beat West Glamorgan Under 14s (110 for 9)
Umpires: Dennis Chiffi & John Williams
Scorer: John Mansbridge
Venue: The Racecourse, Haverfordwest
Pembrokeshire’s talented under 14 cricketers played well to beat their counterparts from West Glamorgan as they limited the opposition to 110 for 9 in their 40 overs and then took just 29 overs to reach their target for the loss of five wickets on a good Racecourse track prepared by Andrew and Jackie Williams.
James Crocker (32) and Ian Webber (14) were the main run-gatherers for the visitors but the rest found it hard going as Pembrokeshire fielded well in support of some consistent bowling by Saundersfoot’s Tom Mansbridge (3 for 13), skipper George James (Hook) who claimed 2 for 13 and a wicket apiece from Levi Hughes (Narberth), Rhys Canton (Carew) and Gethin Scourfield (Whitland).
Dewi Roberts (Stackpole) and Loui Davies (Narberth) also bowled tight opening spells to build pressure on the West Glam batsmen, with Roberts taking two catches alongside some good wicket keeping by Morgan Grieve (Carew).
Pembrokeshire also lost wickets as batsmen looked for runs before settling in but good batting from George James (35 not out) and Tom Mansbridge (14) saw the county to a victory that will have pleased coach Leighton O’Connor and team manager Sarah Mansbridge – and their next challenge comes this Sunday when they take on a strong Mid Glamorgan team in Aberdare.
