All the teams in a colourful finals day

Pembrokeshire U19s T20 Finals Day:

Venue: Hook Cricket Club:

Winners Kilgetty CougarsOn Sunday 11th September, Pembrokeshire U19s Finals Day was held at Hook Cricket Club with four clubs competing to be the first winners of the Gerald Thomas Memorial Cup, which was eventually won by Kilgetty Cougars.

Finals day started with the two semi-finals and both were one sided affairs with Kilgetty Cougars and Cleddau Crusaders making it through to the final. Honourable mentions from the semi-finals must go to Dafydd Bevans 47 in 21 balls (including 5 sixes in an over off Warren Evans), Chloe Hoods 4 catches, fielding at deep square leg and Noah Davies' 47 in the second semi-final alongside Toby Asson's 5 wicket haul.

Kurtis leads Kilgetty fight-back . . .

Runners-up Cleddau CrusadersKilgetty won the toss in the final and chose to bowl first but Cleddau Crusaders made a good start before wickets fell at regular intervals, which slowed down their progress as they ended up on 121 for 9 in their 20 overs.

Kilgetty made a good start in their run chase, reaching 50 before they lost their first wicket, Dafydd Bevan being bowled by Phillip Llewellyn. Two wickets in the following over for Noah Davies certainly swung the momentum in Cleddau's favour but key Kilgetty  batsman Kurtis Marsh was still there ticking along.

Despite Noah ending with 3 for 16 in his four overs Kurtis managed to control Kilgetty’s run chase, retiring after bringing up his half century with only seven runs left to win. Kilgetty knocked off the winning runs with four balls to spare to be crowned Pembrokeshire U19s ‘T20 winners 2016’.

. . . And wins the Man of the match’ award.

The smashing trophies for the playersMan of the Match adjudicator Simon Williams unsurprisingly chose Kurtis Marsh for his match winning knock. Kurtis being the Kilgetty skipper also collected the Gerald Thomas Memorial Cup off members of Gerald’s family.

Thanks must go to Hook CC who put on a great show for the finals day, with particular thanks to Alastair Platten for making the day happen and to the family of Gerald Thomas for sponsoring the trophies.

This was the 2nd season of U19s Cricket in Pembrokeshire and it will be back again next season so organisers Simon Williams and Alastair Platten are asking for any sides wishing to enter next season to get in touch.

The aim of the competition is to keep more youngsters involved in playing cricket with their friends in a fun and friendly environment.
