Nine Welsh members of the European Federation of Sea Anglers (EFSA) recently travelled to Zeeland in Holland to compete in the EFSA European Shore Fishing Championships,

The Welsh squad had some success against what was extremely stiff competition from the teams from the other European Countries, including Holland, Germany, Italy, Iceland, Scotland, England and Ireland.

Wales A and B both battle hard

The Welsh A team of Phil Lustig (Stackpole) (Manager); John O'Connor (Llanycefn) (Captain); Derek Gregory (Milford Haven) (Reigning European Champion); Steve Lewis (Tenby) and Shane Tucker (Milford Haven), managed to finish in a creditable sixth place.

The Welsh B team of Matt Lustig (Stackpole) (Captain); Tina Lustig (Stackpole); Mike Flynn (Anglesey) and Daniel Tucker (Milford Haven) also finished with a credible eighth place, considering they were a team member short. This meant that since only the top four scores count each day, they did not have the luxury of dropping their worst daily score.

Well done Daniel

Daniel Tucker was rewarded for his efforts in catching fish on each of the three days becoming the EFSA junior champion. Steve Lewis won a gold medal in the four man team event and Shane Tucker a bronze in the pairs. Top individual angler was Mike Flynn in 20th, who had previously fished in and managed the Welsh Shore team at the World Championships.

The teams really appreciated the sponsorship from Colin Griffiths of KC Motors Milford Haven (pictured with Daniel Tucker, the new Junior European Champion) , who kindly paid for the hire of a van to transport the teams kit, and Mr D Etherington, Family Butchers (Milford Haven), who made a generous donation towards the fuel costs of the trip.
