A real angling treat for school studentsThe Pembrokeshire Association of Angling Coaches played its traditional role in Pembrokeshire Fish Week as it played host to students from STP School and Ysgol Bro Gwaun at its superb angling centre on the Western Cleddau just north of Treffgarne.

All the children tried their hand at fishing and there were shouts of delight when a small trout or eel was caught.

There was also a special treat for the STP school pupils because well-known angler Carl Lowndes had caught a mighty salmon just an ounce short of ten pounds in weight just a few hours earlier and brought it along for youngsters to hold, have their photo taken with it or just savoured seeing such a superb specimen when they might only have seen salmon in a supermarket before!

Leading the way in providing tuition were qualified coaches Rhian Taylor, Roger Pratt, Eric Williams, John Codd and Steve Esmond, who also chatted to the students about conservation of the river and its banks, and who shared the joy whenever a small fish was caught, studied and then returned to its habitat!
