Over 100 competitors from 17 to 60 took to the starting blocks last weekend for the first in a series of summer Pembrokeshire mini triathlons.
One hundred and three sports men and women – including 33 novices - took part in the mini triathlon at Fishguard on Sunday, where the overall winner was Scott Patrick, who came home in a time of 59 minutes 41 seconds, while Catherine Marks was the first woman home in 1.07.18.
Good times for novices, vets and supervets
Thomas Walker was the first male novice (1.09.22) and Sally Wilson was the first female novice (1.19.36).
Adrian Smith was the winning veteran (over 40) with a time of 1.02.24 and Ian Vickers was the first supervet (over 50) coming home in 1.06.14.
Kirsty Murray was the first female veteran finishing in 1.08.23 and Helen Walker was the female supervet winner with a time of 1.21.33.
Variety of ways to get involved
Organised by Pembrokeshire Leisure – the leisure services arm of Pembrokeshire County Council - and the Pembrokeshire Triathlon Club, entrants take part in a 400m pool swim, a 12.5mile cycle ride and a three mile run.
Targeted primarily at novices, the events are also open to more experienced athletes with competitors able to take on one triathlon or - if they want more of a challenge – tackle all four!
And if three different sports are a bit too much, they can also enter as a three–person team taking on the swim, cycle or run individually.
Cllr Morse is delighted
“These mini triathlons are all about encouraging more people into physical activity,” said Councillor Elwyn Morse, Cabinet Member for Sport and Leisure.
“They’ve proved extremely popular with both newcomers and experienced athletes.”
Further mini triathlons will now be held at Crymych on 21st July, Tenby 11th August and Haverfordwest on 15th September.
