Pembrokeshire Rugby Preview by Bruce Evans

Saturday 19th January, 2013

Bruce EvansWell I bounced back last week with ten out of twelve correct predictions, including the wins for Crymych and Haverfordwest as a good Pembrokeshire day in Division Two (West) - Editor please note these two!  But there were disappointing defeats for Tenby and the Quins, whilst the manner of Milford's defeat at Gorseinon was worrying.

Swalec championship:
Narberth travel to Bonymaen, always a daunting venue, but the Otters must fancy their chances against the 11th placed team having beaten them at home by 35-15; so for me that's a definite Otters' win.
This really is the week Whitland must win to be in with a shout of staying up. They drew away at Glamorgan Wanderers earlier in the season so should have the confidence to beat them at home; a win for the Borderers, I think!

Division Three (West):
Cardigan and Milford Haven play a rearranged match at Cardigan. Earlier in the season I felt Milford had missed a chance by losing at home to Cardigan in their first match. I think that's even more the case now. Cardigan have only won one of their last three but they've played the top two sides recently and lost by respectable margins, whilst Milford are shipping far too many tries. I expect a Cardigan win but I hope the Mariners will field a stronger side than last week.

Division Four (West):
Neyland host Nantgaredig, who are in a comfortable sixth position. I don't doubt Neyland are fighting to stay up but I am starting to get the feeling that they'll be better off rebuilding in Division Five (West) next season. It's an away win for me here.

Division Five (West):
Worrying times for some of our clubs as Pontyates have suddenly climbed off the bottom and it could be one of Llangwm or St Davids who drops into Division Six (West). So St Davids can do themselves and the Wasps a mighty favour this Saturday by beating Pontyates at home. Confidence must be high after recent home victories and I'm hoping they can make three wins out of four.
I have less confidence in Llangwm beating Pembroke at home. Pembroke still have an outside chance of promotion and will give no favours – so it has to be an away win.
Pembroke Dock Quins entertain New Dock Stars in a top of the table clash. This is one they have to win to get the show back on the road and I'll go for a home win. (Editor's Note: No match here Brucie boy – the Stars are still in cup competition!)

Swalec Plate Round Three:
Crymych play at Kidwelly, who lie in mid table of Division One (West). This will be a good test for the Preseli Men and I think they'll challenge hard - but I expect home advantage to give Kidwelly the edge.

Swalec Bowl Round Four:
Fishguard and Goodwick travel to take on Aberaeron. Fishguard are on a great run and I expect them to progress at the picturesque Cardigan Bay home of their opponents.
