Paul Sage Cup:

Saints slam Exiles in Boxing Day rugby

St Davids 30 - St Davids Exiles 0

Both St Davids and the Exiles' teams on Boxing DaySt Davids players old and new defied the treacherous weather conditions to play out an entertaining Boxing Day game at Fishguard Road.

The Exiles actually made the stronger start, and nearly took the lead early on when first team coach Fintan Godkin was bundled into touch just short of the line - but the first team took command when club captain Jack Jones came into the line from full back and dived over for an unconverted try.

Morgan makes a telling break

On the brink of half time, winger Rhys Morgan benefitted from an overlap to make it 10-0 and following a deserved glass of sherry at half time for all players, scrum half Scott James effectively made the game safe for the first XV when he sprinted  over from halfway for another unconverted score. James added his second moments later, gathering his own chip and chase kick to make it 20-0.

Skipper Jones grabs his second score

Skipper Jones then added his second following a kick through, before Morgan went very close to a second try but was again halted by good cover defence from the Exiles.

There was still time for one more score for the first XV as outside half Phil Lamb, playing directly against brother Andrew, made a break and despite a brilliant cover tackle by Alex Evans, Lamb managed to offload to centre Rupert Dunn, who completed the scoring.

Following the game, the Paul Sage Cup was presented to Jack Jones and players enjoyed an auction and raffle in the club afterwards.
