Championship Division:

Borderers so close to brilliant win

Whitland 40 - Blackwood 43

Whitland came within a whisker of beating Blackwood, one of the top sides in the section, as they led a see-saw match with the final whistle imminent but then they conceded a late converted try to lose a match where they scored six tries!

But at least they claimed two bonus points for their efforts in a hugely entertaining clash where they trailed 22-14 at half time but showed what they could do from a terrific all-round team effort.

Tearaway young flanker Zac France-Miller opened their account and other tries came from outside half Jonathan Thomas, who had a good game where he also kicked five conversions, in-form winger Fraser Watson, second row Dai Ebsworth, full back Scott Newton and hooker Marc Jones.

For Blackwood there were tries by full back Nathan Gittings, centre Nicky Turner, flanker Justin Jones (2), hooker Josh Clark and replacement Tracey Fairlie. No 10 Paul Emmanuelli also landed five conversions and a penalty to help Blackwood edge their way to a very narrow win.

** The Borderers had also played well in midweek as they beat Newbridge 33-24 in midweek. They trailed by 14-3 at one stage but tries from Fraser Watson, Will Davies, Zac France-Miller and Rhodri West, alongside two conversion and three penalties by Jonathan Thomas, saw them home.

Division Two (West):

Preseli Men maintain fine form

Crymych 27 - Penclawdd 5

Crymych continued their fine run of form as they proved too strong for Penclawdd at Parc Lloyd Thomas, picking up a bonus point in the process for running in four tries.

They led by 10-0 at the end of a hard-fought first half with a good try by winger Gavin Thomas, plus the conversion and a penalty from Rhys Davies.

The Cocklemen did manage a try by James Snell but Gavin Thomas ran in his second try and hooker Carwyn Phillips also got on the try sheet, whilst Davies landed one conversion to complete another excellent day’s work for John Davies and his in-form team.

Division Three (West):

Mariners go down again at The Obs

Milford Haven 19 - Pontarddulais 36

Milford Haven followed a 63-7 midweek defeat with another loss at The Obs as they played much better but were still outplayed by Pontarddulais.

Mikey Ryder had scored The Mariners only try in midweek, converted by Grant Rogers, and on this occasion there were nicely-worked scores for Ian Rusinek, Dean McSparron and Gareth Fawcett, plus a conversion apiece by Ashley Bevans and Lee Riley.

But The Bont had tries by Wyn Davies (3), Josh Goss, Nick Hopkins and Aled Stone, who also added a conversion alongside two by James Davies.

Division Four (West):

All Blacks bashed by table toppers

Tycroes 67 - Neyland 0

Neyland found it hard going against a Tycroes team able to celebrate promotion in some style as they not only prevented the All Blacks from scoring but ran in no fewer than 11 tries of their own.

Trystan Morgan (2), Robbie Williams, Steve Roach (2), Steffan Davies, John James, Dean Bromham, Mike Hopkins, Chris Davies and Alan Price were the home try scorers whilst Carwyn Richards converted six of them.

Division Five (West):

Wasps stung by Uplands

Swansea Uplands 51 - Llangwm 5

Llangwm struggled to contain a powerful Swansea Uplands but managed to claim a consolation try by hooker Josh Davies from a good line-out drive as reward for battling away.

But the Uplands ran in tries by Tom Pugh (2), James Edwards (2), Alex Greenslade, Ben Davies, Ben Ghose, James Brannigan and Dai Lees, whilst Pugh also landed three conversions to complete the scoring for the Uplands.

Scarlets draw with Penygroes

Pembroke 22 - Penygroes 22

With a number of players away on tour, Pembroke played their match against Penygroes in midweek and shared 44 points in an entertaining tussle.

Skipper Geraint Jackson rounded off a good season at the helm with two tries, with others from Jamie Goodman and Andrew Davies to go with a single conversion by James Davies.
