Boswell leads Scarlets to deserved win against The Blues

Haverfordwest 10 - Pembroke 22

There was action aplenty in this match between Haverfordwest and Pembroke before the Scarlets’ pack power paid off and all four of their tries were claimed by forwards, two of them by dynamic second row Max Boswell.

But sadly, not all of it was confined to focussed play as referee Alaric Churchill showed three red cards and two yellow cards before he told PembrokeshireSport.co.uk afterwards that he was impressed by the pace of the game on such a hot afternoon and the skill levels shown overall, but added that a small number of players on both sides needed to learn a little more self-discipline.

It is also worth mentioning that some touchline comments about his mobility were a little misplaced because he had taken charge so that the game could go ahead although he was still recovering from a serious leg injury – and both camps knew he was still four weeks off being back to full fitness.

The Young Blues got the game off to a flying start as powerful No 8 Sam Sims linked well with back row colleagues Lewis Parry and Mark Rozblat to grab an unconverted try.

But the Young Scarlets soon showed they had a strong pack and after good work by Tony Oakley, Dylan Williams, Ethan Brown and George Jones it was hooker Dan Davies who powered over and centre Jack Nicholas added the extra points.

Back came The Blues and skipper Iestyn Arnold grabbed an unconverted try but Pembroke took a 12-10 lead thanks to a close-range try by Mark Jones.

From then on there were chances for both teams as The Blues ran the ball at every opportunity but The Scarlets defended well, particularly at defensive rucks where they turned over possession – and a try brace from the powerful Boswell, who was always on hand, made sure they stayed in front until the final whistle.

Iestyn Comey - two tries for the Young OttersHarley Young (Narberth try scorer)Narberth and Llangwm battled hard in this youth match and in the final analysis it was The Young Otters who came out on top as they scored three tries, all unconverted, and restricted The Young Wasps to just two penalties as they failed to turn periods of pressure into more points.

Leading the way for the home team was No 8 Iestyn Comey, who scored two of their tries as he linked well with  fellow back-rowers Ben Davies and Will Nicholas, plus busy scrum half Iestyn Evans.

Gritty hooker Harley Young, who caught the eye up front alongside Tom Monk, James Morgan, Lewis Reed and Owain Thomas, claimed the other Young Otters’ try.

For Llangwm, there were good performances from Flynn Tjonk, Seth Willington, Arwyn O’Loughlin and Fletcher Picton, who slotted one of their penalties after full back Iwan Davies put them on the scoreboard.

Action from Aberystwyth v CrymychAberystwyth 38 - Crymych 12

A minute silence prior to Tenby v Whitland Youth as a mark of respect for The Queen

Young Borderers win well at Tenby

Tenby United 19 - Whitland 38

There was an entertaining tussle at Heywood Lane as both teams were intent on playing at pace but in the final analysis it was the visitors Whitland who came out as worthy winners as they ran in  six tries to the Young Seasiders’ two.

Jake Williams led the way with two tries and others for Whitland came from Harrison Lloyd, Lewis Jones, Jack Worthing and Lennon Reynolds, who also landed three conversions as his namesake Tyler slotted the other one.

For Tenby Will Price, Kyle Rossiter and Jake Henson grabbed good tries, two of them converted by Max James – and on the evidence of this game both teams have a lot to offer this season.
