Championship:
On-form Otters too good for Students
Cardiff Met 10 - Narberth 30
Head coach Sean Gale must have been delighted with the way that his side did a lot of hard work in defence during a tight first half – and also pleased that his son Nick had an outstanding game at full back that included landing all three conversions and three penalties as a bonus.
The Otters led 9-7 at the interval as Gale landed all three kicks against a Met try by Tom Pritchard which Justin Hopkins converted.
But The Otter pack got on top after the interval as Alex Jenkins led by example and the back row of Josh Hamer, Caine Rees-Jones and Dafydd Rotie were key ball winners and half backs Lewys Gibby and Jon Rogers utilised hard-won possession, as did George McDonald when he came on at No 9.
Winger Ashley Sutton claimed the first Otter try as they spread play wide and centre John Davies featured before Gale supplied the scoring pass to Sutton and then landed the conversion.
Then No 8 Rotie, playing on permit from Pontypridd, rounded off a period of pressure in the students’ 22 and again Gale added the extra points.
The final Otter try came after a good turn over by their pack allowed Josh Evans to make ground and put in a neat kick ahead from which McDonald pounced to win the touchdown and again Gale converted.
They also thought they had picked up a bonus point for four tries after McDonald kicked forward and Sutton pounced but was recalled because the referee felt McDonald had knocked on – but it mattered little because Narberth were home and dry from an excellent all-round squad performance.

Division One (West):
Preseli Men run in nine tries against struggling Scarlets
Crymych 63 - Pembroke 5
Pembroke were without a number of key players through injury and unavailability and paid the inevitable price at a wet Park Lloyd Thomas as an in-form Crymych side ran in nine tries as proof of their superiority.
They were already 28-0 ahead at half time from four tries converted by full back Adam Phillips as their pack won quality possession and kept their opponents on the back foot - and it was a similar story after the break as The Preseli Men added a further five converted tries.
But Pembroke deserve every credit for sticking to their task in adversity and their efforts were finally rewarded when No 8 Aaron Williams powered over for an unconverted try.
The Crymych try scorers were centre Gethin Gibby (2), flanker Cai Ifans (3), Ifan Phillips, Tomos Phillips, Laurence Headlam and Owain Evans, all converted by Adam Phillips, and victory keeps them in second spot in the table, whilst Pembroke remain rooted to the bottom, the only team in the section without a point after five matches.

Division Two (West):
Mariners celebrate first league win in basement battle
Milford Haven 8 - Carmarthen Athletic 5
The platform for success was undoubtedly the work rate of their pack as they denied The Athletic too much quality possession in a tight first period where the only score was a try by Gareth Isaacs and a conversion from Tom Carpenter.
Dan Birch, Dan Jenkins and skipper Lee Riley made inroads after the interval and good work by Dan McClelland and James Williams set up the chance for a try by full back Kyran Grey which Williams was unable to convert.
The Mariners continued to push forward as Luke Ryan, Ben Jenkins and Ben Groves caught the eye – and when No 10 Williams was given a penalty chance he knocked it between the posts to give Milford a lead they were to hold until the final whistle, thanks to some solid defending.
Milford Haven: Kyran Grey: Lee Riley (Capt), Dan Birch; Dan Jenkins; James Sheen: James Williams; Dan McClelland: Ben Jenkins; Luke Ryan; Jimmy Buirds: Dewi Williams; Jay Goodall: Sam Phillips; Dylan Morgan; Ben Groves. Replacements: Trystan Lewis; Dylan Evans; Ieuan Davies; Scott Buirds; Jamie Lewis.
Kicking poses problems for Seasiders
Tycroes 15 - Tenby United 12
Home full back Geraint Rees slotted three penalties to give his team a 9-7 interval lead as The Seasiders undoubted forward dominance was rewarded with a penalty try after a series of collapsed scrums and two yellow cards – but they were unable to add to that tally as they made mistakes in very heavy conditions.
They took the lead from another set piece as No 8 Dan Colley and scrum half Cam Broadhurst combined to put winger Matthew Morgan over in the corner – but the difficult conversion and a simpler penalty were off target as they tried to build on their 12-9 lead.
And Tycroes benefitted as Geraint Rees kicked a penalty to haul his team level and another to give them victory – and leave The Seasiders to reflect on what might have been!
Tenby United: Luke Hartland: Adam Quill; Oakley Milton; Toby Smith; Matthew Morgan: Gwion Jones; Cam Broadhurst: Ethan Morgan; Dan Allen; Rob Luly: Mike Davis; Luge Dedman (Capt): Jake Roberts; Will Swales; Dan Colley. Replacements: Nicky Guymer; Frankie Boyd; Liam Pugh; Jimmy Davies; Jack Gooding.

Division Three (West) A:
Blues’ pack power is the platform for a big win
Haverfordwest 67 - Cardigan 0
Haverfordwest utilised their massive forward dominance to inflict a heavy defeat on Cardigan, who were without several key players and were under the cosh from the outset as The Blues established a 31-point interval lead and ended up with no fewer than 11 tries overall.
But to be fair to The Teifisiders they never gave up trying and didn’t take the tactical expedient of uncontested scrums as skipper Tom Taylor, Rhodri Davies and Kester Adams battled hard to stem the tide of Blues’ attacks.
The Blues jerked Cardigan back yards at every scrum and they opened their account with a corner try by Sam Webber after good work after coach Matthew John defied the awful weather to take a difficult pass and then deliver a good one to his winger.
Full back Owain Thomas added the difficult conversion and added a second two points when Mikey Griffiths ploughed over near the posts – before adding an even better conversion from the other touchline after No 10 Stuart Morris kicked through and winger Archie Thomas claimed to touch down.
Further tries came near half time; a second by flanker Griffiths and then a fifth from skipper Matty Phillips.
The Blues added more tries after the oranges by prop Will Blackburn, second row Karl Busch, No 8 Jon Mason, centre Matthew John and another two from Matty Phillips to give the skipper a hat-trick.
Owain Thomas landed three more conversions to help take Haverfordwest to a huge win but Cardigan can hold their heads high because they honoured the fixture despite knowing they were going to struggle!

All Blacks win it with first-half display
Neyland 27 - Pembroke Dock Harlequins 5
George Evans, showing his versatility again, slotted an early penalty for The All Blacks and then added the extra points from a superb try by Ben James, the second row gaining possession 40 metres out and after bushing off would-be tacklers powering his way to the posts.
Another penalty by Evans put his side 13-0 to the good after 15 minutes but The Quins responded with a cracking try from young winger Tom Donavan, who used his pace to good effect on a long run and scrum half Morgan Rogers converted.
But Neyland were soon back on the attack and winger Matthew Coles raced away for another excellent try in abject weather – and almost from the kick off The Quins conceded a scrum near their own line and No 8 Ben Williams powered over and Evans added the extras.
The second half was competitive and both teams had their chances but The Quins failed to score any points, especially from one lengthy period in the bottom corner, and join The Quins as joint seventh in the section table.

St Clears overrun makeshift St Davids
St Clears 61 - St Davids 7
But they never gave up trying and were eventually rewarded with a second-half try by Ryan Bolton, on permit from Tenby United, with the conversion only just wobbled over by centre Ben Joyce.
For St Clears there were first-half tries from prop Gareth Jones, scrum half Dafydd Edwards, centre Dan Griffiths and winger Aled Owens, all converted by No 10 Dan Griffiths.
Second rows Tom Rees and Rhodri Evans also added their names to the try sheet, followed by centre and captain Jac Howells and a penalty try.
Griffiths completed a personal haul of 26 points with his second try alongside all eight conversions as St Clears confirmed their status as the top team in the division whilst St Davids stay in fifth spot despite this mauling.
St Davids: Ollie Owen: Morgan Davies; Gavin Jenkins; Ben Joyce; Jack Rees: Aaron Foster; Zac Morgan: Rob Clark; Adam Williams; Ryan John: Aled Davies: Llion Williams: Caleb O’Neill; Rhys Price; Daf Williams. Replacements: Andrew Batten; Ryan Bolton; Madars Ivanovos; Ethan Bateman; Adam Phillips.
