Llangwm Youth on the attack

Skipper O’Loughlin steers Young Wasps to victory over Tenby Youth

Llangwm Youth 19 - Tenby United Youth 0

Venue: Pill Parks Seconds’ Pitch
Referee: Martin Rudd

Llangwm Youth skipper Arwyn O’Loughlin played a huge part in a solid win over their counterparts from Tenby United under the excellent floodlights at the seconds’ pitch at Pill Parks.

Playing in the second row, O’Loughlin opened their account with a try and grabbed a decisive third score as reward for being totally involved, in front of a large crowd who enjoyed this Friday night game, where both sides showed a range of skills before The Young Wasps’ forward power finally paid off.

Although they didn’t manage to put any points on the board, The Young Seasiders played their part in an entertaining tussle which showed the high skill levels in both camps.

Young Seasiders have talent aplenty for the future

For Tenby, winger Oscar Miles posed a potent threat with his genuine pace whenever he was put in a yard of space whilst centre Jacob Salisbury also caught the eye with his defensive skills.

Up front, hooker Kyle Rossiter made his usual impact alongside prop Hudson Diment, with back rower Kevin Allan another catching the eye with his ball carrying and strong work in defence.

Young Wasps power pays off

But despite being reduced to 14 men for 75% of the game, Llangwm Youth held the edge as No 8 Joe Phillips also carried well alongside O’Loughlin, who opened the scoring when he ploughed over the line and outside half Iwan Davies added the extra points.

Strong-running centre Harry Makepeace added the second try, which went unconverted and  Llangwm put the game to bed in the closing stages when O’Loughlin again crossed the whitewash – and centre Fletcher Picton converted.

Young Otters come out on top in ‘ferocious derby’

Wil Nicholas - grabbed a try brace for Narberth YouthNarberth Youth19 - Whitland Youth 7

This was the usual ferocious local derby between Narberth and Whitland where. no quarter was given in an entertaining game played in atrocious conditions – with every player and official deserve great credit for battling on until the final whistle.

Narberth struck first with a well-taken try from winger Max Morgan as he used his pace to good effect, with Shay Norcross converting. The Young Otters followed this up with an opportunist try for flanker Wil Nicholas from a stray throw from a Whitland lineout.

In the second half the home side scored first through Wil Nicholas, dynamic back rower crossing the whitewash after a long period of Narberth pressure.

From here on Whitland had the momentum and scored a good try in the corner by Ieuan Hill, superbly converted by Lennon Reynolds.

There were strong performances from the Reynolds brothers amongst the backs for Whitland with prop Jack Worthing also standing out.

Outstanding for Narberth were the back row of Yori Morgan, Kyle Day and their man of the match Wil Nicholas in a game that was credit to both clubs.

Crymych come good in second half

Ellis James - man of match for Crymych YouthPembroke Youth 5 - Crymych Youth 29

Pembroke’s talented young team produced an excellent first-half performance against their high-flying counterparts from Crymych, with the scores level at 5-5 at the interval of a rain-swept match at Crickmarren.

But then whatever the Crymych coaches said at that time clearly worked because they added another four tries after the break to take the verdict.

Scarlets’ man of the match Charlie Sheils scored his team’s try and Max Boswell also caught the eye with his ball-carrying and work rate up front.

Crymych’s man of the match was fullback Ellis James, who was strong in defence but also posed a threat in attack, with Luke Allsworth also having a good game in his new position on the wing.

Winger Ifan Vaughan claimed two cracking tries from respective offloads by Iestyn Wood, who also scored a try, plus brother Aneurin Vaughan, who came on in the second half to influence matters with his ball carrying as well as crossing the whitewash.

Hedd George also got on the scoresheet with his try and so did Iori Lewis with two conversions as Crymych Youth moved into third place with their fourth win from five starts and The Scarlets’ Youth stay in seventh but showed real potential here.

Blues bag deserved first win of the campaign

Iestyn Arnold - the skipper kicked vital conversion for Haverfordwest YouthHaverfordwest Youth 7 -
Aberystwyth Youth 5

Haverfordwest Youth battled really hard in abject conditions at Merlins Bridge to fend off a strong challenge from a more experienced Aberystwyth Youth.

The Young Blues went five points down near half time when William Beckham scored for Aber but in the second period back rower Logan Young, playing his first game in the age group after moving up from under 16, scored his try as reward for a lot of effort and skipper Iestyn Arnold, playing well at outside half, added the vital conversion.

Both teams gave 100% and small wonder that Blues’ coaches Steve Parry and Andrew Thicker were delighted with this win after four successive defeats.
