Laugharne show Quins how to take chances
Pembroke Dock Harlequins 7 - Laugharne 36
Laugharne maintained third spot in the table with a hard-fought victory over Pembroke Dock Harlequins, who made a substantial contribution to the match but good defence by the visitors saw them soak up periods of pressure before they scored good tries at regular intervals, often from long distance.
It was The Quins who made the better start as they pounded the Laugharne line, with Martin Culley, Dan McLeod, Jack Mallitte and especially Harry Owen to the fore, with a series of tapped penalties close to the line being well defended – and other chances being spilled through over-eagerness.
But then Laugharne broke out as Nico Setaro, James Stephenson, Owain Thomas and Adam Davies seeking out spaces and they finally opened their account when good work from skipper Tomos Rees, Iwan Lewis and Carl Davies saw play spread wide and winger Steve John did well to squeeze in at the left corner.
The Quins still kept pounding away without success and were hit on the counter just before half time as the influential Setaro made an incisive break, threw in a couple of dummies and raced to the line for Stephenson to add a good conversion.
Laugharne continue to claim tries as Quins fail to take chances
The visitors scored early on after the break when good work by Stephenson and Tom Davies saw John claim his second unconverted try – and a clever chip into the Quins’ 22 saw the ball bounce perfectly into the hands of Setaro and he scored his second try.
It says much for the Quins’ resilience as they still had good attacking work by Euan McDonald, Gethin Bradney and Morgan Rogers but Laugharne added further tries by Tom Davies (under the posts for Stephenson to convert) and replacement flanker Aled Thomas received the loudest cheer of the match as he powered over from 25 metres as reward for some good support work, Stephenson adding the extras.
The Quins were finally rewarded with a late try when No 10 McDonald crossed the white wash and half back partner Rogers converted – and it was no more than The Quins deserved for their part in an absorbing clash.

Mason double in vain for Borderers

A penalty try opened up a 36-point gap before Mason’s intervention after good work by the rest of his pack, but second row Ethan Harries grabbed their sixth try as he found himself in space out on the wing – and Lawson again converted to set the seal on a bonus-point success for the visitors.

Lampeter show top-of-table form
Lampeter 74 - Cardigan 17
Lampeter showed why they are contenders for the section silverware as they overwhelmed Cardigan in a free-scoring first period where they rattled up 45 points without reply – and although The Teifisiders managed to respond with three tries after the break there was no stopping the home side from staying a point clear of St Clears at the top.
Osian Jones, Jac Williams (2), John Heath, Gethin Ebsworth, Meirion Lloyd, and Osian Jones chipped in with a try and five conversions.
In a try-laden second half Cardigan managed tries from flanker Liam Wilkes, centre Emyr Harries and Daniel Bradshaw, one converted by Llyr Jones – but Lampeter added further scores by Ebsworth, Llyr Jones, TR Jones and Sion O’Keefe, three converted by Osian Jones to help his side to a commanding tenth win from 11 starts.
