Crymych cruise to vital victory

Man of the match - Owain Davies, Crymych YouthHaverfordwest 5 - Crymych 36

Crymych Youth maintained their interest in the league championship with a deserved victory at Haverfordwest in a Friday night floodlit match that attracted an even bigger crowd to Pembroke Road than The Young Blues previous fixture under lights against Whitland.

On that occasion Haverfordwest won in an exciting finale but on this occasion it was Crymych who were on top for much of a game when uncontested scrums were the order of the day, running  in six tries before the homesters gained a deserved consolation score from Ashton Doyle, who started in the back row but finished up in the centre.

Crymych gave debuts to under 16s players Ashton De’Ath, Cai Phillips and James Dearsley in an otherwise experienced team and their tries came at regular intervals from Jack Delaney, Jake Knoot, Owain Davies (2), Gruff Edwards and Ptolemy Alleyne, with Owain Davies converting three of them as he picked up Crymych’s man of the match award.

Haverfordwest coaches Steve Parry and Andrew Thicker were pleased with the way their young charges battled throughout against the league leaders – and a Crymych spokesman congratulated both teams on the way they stuck to the task to produce an absorbing clash.

Whitland win an entertaining friendly

Carmarthen Athletic 19 - Whitland 28

With no league match on the schedule Whitland Youth took the chance to play a friendly fixture against their counterparts from Carmarthen Athletic and with both teams playing some attacking rugby a good crowd enjoyed an entertaining tussle before The Young Borderers came away with a deserved victory.

Whitland scored four tries by Ieuan Hill, Lewis Jones, Jack Worthing and Harrison Lloyd, with Lennon Reynolds having his kicking boots on as he slotted all four conversions.

The Athletic managed to score three tries through Lewis Tomas, McCallum Logan and Dafydd Ebsworth, with Harry Connick adding the extra points to two of them – and both sets of match organisers deserve every credit for not letting another international weekend prevent their young charges from playing.
