Crymych Youth

Crymych maintain their winning streak

Crymych Youth 40 - Pembroke Youth 14

Crymych Youth completed the double over a gritty Pembroke side as they followed up an earlier 29-5 win at Crickmarren with this second success as they ran in six tries – but the Young Scarlets played their part in an entertaining match as they also claimed two converted tries.

Gruff Edwards again caught the eye for Crymych as the outside half controlled matters as his powerful pack set up quality possession and he sliced through for two tries as well as landing five out of six conversions for a personal haul of 20 points.

He was edged out of being chosen as man of the match by Steffan Morris, whose work rate, ball-winning and support play was excellent in helping set up further tries by Hedd George, Dan Page (2) and Ptolemy Alleyne.

Crymych coach Barry Davies was also able to give a little more experience at this level as Ashton De-Ath and Cai Phillips played again from the club’s under 16 squad.

Pembroke’s tries were scored by Jack Munn and Taylor Evans, who also notched a conversion alongside Harry Woodhouse.

Bailey Owens also caught the eye for The Scarlets with his second row performance but he had to go off injured and was well looked after by the home staff and Shelley Reynolds, the Crymych first-aider – and all involved will wish him a speedy return to action.

Tyler Reynolds pounces for a try for Whitland

Toby Rees looks to break for young Borderers

Whitland Youth 17 - Llangwm Youth 17

Jake Williams grabs a try for Whitland

The youth game at Parc Llwyn Ty Gwyn between hosts Whitland and Llangwm was understandable called off at half time with honours even as they shared 34 points but then home player Toby Rees suffered a neck injury and there was a delay in the ambulance arriving to convey him to hospital.

Fortunately though, there were experienced people available in both camps and he was well looked after until the ambulance arrived – and after checks there he was allowed home – and everyone will wish this popular player a quick return to action.

The game itself was played at pace and with total commitment from both camps, with The Young Borderers scoring tries by Tyler Reynolds, Jack Jenkins and Jake Williams, one converted by Lennon Reynolds, as they showed their ability to move the ball around at pace but regularly met stout defence led by Joe Phillips Arron John, and Liam Rees..

For The Young Wasps there was the usual commitment from Ashton O’Loughlin, Dom Asson, Seth Willington and Joe Phillips, whilst Aled Rogers and Charlie Wilson grabbed their tries, both from close range, alongside both conversions and a penalty from Fletcher Picton.

Aber win well at home

Aberystwyth Youth 57 - Tenby United Youth 5

Aberystwyth are particularly hard to beat on their home patch and Tenby United were the latest team to make the long journey north and come away with little to show for their efforts as the Mid Wales team ran in nine tries and conceded just one.

Leading the way with a brace of tries apiece were Leo Davies, Ellis Nicholas and Reuben Meaney, plus others by Gwion Hefin, Ben Breese and Euros Lloyd, who took his personal points tally to 17 as he landed six conversions.

Cian Knights rounded off a good individual performance with the sole Seasiders’ try as prop Dewi Jackson also played well alongside youngsters in winger Rhys Emmanuel and scrum half George Duckett.

Tenby coach Mark Heywood was quick to sing the praises of his relatively young squad for making the trip as he told us getting a full team for such a long trip but echoed the club’s policy of fulfilling every fixture!
