As a result, Fraser was delighted to pick Sir Gareth Edwards’ new book, sponsored by the Victoria Book Shop in Haverfordwest and autographed by the great man as his special prize.
Close behind Fraser came Gary ‘Power’ James and as a footballer and cricketer with Johnston he chose Bobby Charlton’s autobiography, whilst a delighted Jonathan Williams (Hundleton CC and former Pembroke RFC player) told us it was the first thing he had ever won as he chose Bobby Windsor’s life story!
Paul Webb (another sporting all-rounder who still plays cricket for Wales Veterans, chose ‘Rugby of the 70s’, signed by Carolyn Hitt, with Neyland sporting all-rounder Sean Hannon having a book about Sir Geoff Hurst (1966 World Cup’s hat-trick hero) as a special treat because he loves his football.
It meant that Angus Scourfield (Whitland football referee), Mikey Jones (cricketer and footballer with Haverfordwest), Brian Morris (Goodwick United’s stalwart) had to decide which books they would like, from signed copies of books by two other Welsh Rugby legends in JJ Williams and Phil Bennett, a signed copy of Eddie Butler’s second novel about Gonzo Davies or Peter Jackson’s look at sporting Welsh legends.
