Last year’s trek was over 15 miles and took him under four hours but this year will see ‘Minty’ set out from County Hall at midnight this Thursday and travel through Simpson’s Cross, Newgale, up the hill to Penycwm, Solva and on to St Davids.
Without too much of a pause, other than for a welcome strong cup of coffee and a chocolate biscuit, it’s then on through Croesgoch, Mathry, Goodwick and Fishguard for a quick bite to eat provided by wife Marie as he keeps moving to make sure he doesn’t seize up!
Hoping for a Wolfscastle ‘lift’ when he’s tired
Letterston is his next target before Wolfscastle, where he hopes to be greeted by the children of Wolfscastle School, where his work sometimes takes him, and head teacher Wendy Raymond at around 2pm – before he ends up back at County Hall, a distance of 48.5 miles in what he hopes will be around 16 hours.
Naturally, he hopes for dry weather and good support from his trusty trainers, and has been promised support from his work colleagues, especially Charlie Blythe, and his pals at Fishguard Sports AFC, where he does so much work coaching the girls and disability teams.
“It’s going to be a major challenge and I naturally have some trepidation,” admitted ‘Minty’ “but I’m going to give it my best shot!”
He does have a ‘Just Giving’ page or if any of his sporting friends would like to make a donation, no matter how small, he can be contacted at County Hall.
